Manufactured by General Motors the Trans Am is one of the first muscle cars produced by Pontiac. After watching the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro become successful, Pontiac introduced the Trans Am in 1969. The famous known Firebird logo, on the hood, helped to cement the Pontiac Trans Am as an American icon and vehicle that would go down forever in American automotive history.... The 1979 is definitely a legendary year for options. The engineering inspired title: Trans Am Mark IV WS6 was a way of ordering a Trans Am with a little extra performance. This option grew out of Herb Adams road racing Trans Am modifications. In 1978, when it was introduced, WS6 included a bigger rear swaybar, improved bushings, wider wheels, stiffer springs and shocks, a special steering box, and a brace on the subframe. In 1979, to make it even better, 4-wheel disc brakes were added to the package. Pontiac did not expect the new WS6 to be as popular as it was. More people were ordering the WS6 package then Pontiac planned which led to a shortage of 4-wheel disc brakes axels. Pontiac then created a new RPO WS7, which was essentially the WS6 package without the 4-wheel disc brakes. In 1978, after two years of success with the black and gold Special Editions, Pontiac decided to reverse the colors. Solar gold with dark brown accents, Most Gold Trans Ams were built in Norwood, Ohio as the Van Nuys, California plant had to use a different paint due to EPA regulations. The paint from California had a greenish cast to it, versus the more pure gold look of the Ohio models. This Gold Edition Trans Am is part of the Pontiac "second generation". Assembled in Van Nuys, California where it was later shipped to Bob Warren Pontiac Inc in Manhattan Beach, California. This is a codes matching car that includes two original build sheets.
