Am selling for a friend so it may take a few hours to get an answer. On Aug-04-12 at 05:04:00 PDT, seller added the following information: The vehicle has NO rust, no metal has been replaced and very little bondo used to smooth dings, etc. On Aug-07-12 at 14:13:06 PDT, seller added the following information: The question was asked about matching numbers between the engine and frame. The engine # is 1P12656. We have looked according to the manual the places where the frame tag would be and cannot find it. On a vehicle that is 63 years old any number of things could have happened to dislodge it. We know the importance of this for antique vehicle buyers and will continue to try and find other information that may lead us closer to this answer. As you can see by the photos and description it is still one hell of a vehicle. On Aug-07-12 at 14:44:33 PDT, seller added the following information: What I have learned is that this vehicle came from Sutton, WV and was always owned within one family. The current owner is the only one to have possession of the vehicle since then outside of the family. The original color was an orange as evidenced by the color under the hood. We know of two previous titles in WV, AS88771 (2003) and an earlier title # X068519 (no date). According to a publication from Willys America, the frame is matched to the features found on this current vehicle. We are going to call WALKS (Willy's Restoration Parts) in the morning (8/8/12) and see if the can provide further information on locating a frame tag. I also found this info: Identifying early Willys Jeeps is often a challenge because they did not have Vehicle Identification Numbers. VINs first began to appear on vehicles produced by U. S. manufacturers in 1954, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Willys-Overland sold Jeep to the Kaiser Corporation in 1953, just before the VIN system was put into use. Willys Jeeps have serial numbers rather than VINs. We are trying our best to provide as much information as possible so that you can be assured that the vehicle as described is as accurate as we can know. I have purchased several cars and motorcycles thru EBay and understand that we are essentially buying on the information provided by the seller. I value my personal reputation and my Ebay status very much and will do our best to provide what we can. We had sveral comments on the originality of two things: 1. That the tailgate hinges were not as original (new reproduction bed) but they are the same as the original. 2. That this was originally a column shift but that isn't the case it came with in the floor 4 wd shifting. On Aug-08-12 at 07:22:19 PDT, seller added the following information: Another detail.....the rear end has an 11 leaf spring set that has the capacity of a 1-ton although I cannot imagine anyone actually hauling anything in this. As you know the transmission sets sideways to hook a PTO up that would extend through the rear of the truck to operate farm impliments (we do not have a PTO), thus the reason that they did not place a rear bumber on these.
