Vehicle Detail
The original Veggie Car is now for sale! This car really turns heads! A super fast, super rare, super hot rod 1971 240Z DIESEL! This car has a 1982 Nissan Maxima LD28 diesel engine (same physical size as the original 2.4L Datsun engine), coupled with a 280ZX turbocharger and aftermarket intercooler for additional performance and reliability. It gets over 35 mpg, and tops out over 110 mph. It flies! The car was designed to showcase biodiesel fuel but also runs on regular diesel as well. A straight vegetable oil kit could be installed very easily on this car, and run it on pure vegetable oil. The vehicle features factory A/C, custom interior, neoprene suspension, and a very unique custom paint job. The original website www.veggiecar.com was accidently allowed to expire, however this can be renamed inexpensively by the buyer. This car can be a powerful promotion tool for you or your GREEN business. The vehicle has taken thousands of hours over many years to perfect, and is properly titled in Colorado as a diesel. I originally bought the car to market a biodiesel plant I was going to invest in. However, it never got off the ground, and I've kept the car ever since. It has always been garaged year round. I love to drive this car, but am selling it because of a new business venture that involves investing in some machinery and inventory. This is an extra playtoy that needs to go! Vehicle Condition The vehicle has been restored and is in very good shape for a 41 year classic. This includes: All new body panels, all new suspension, completely rebuilt/balanced diesel motor with less than 20,000 miles, rebuilt turbocharger, new R134 A/C from Nissan, awesome custom paint job (airbrushed and 3 clear coats), 50% tires. It is completely reliable - I would get in it tomorrow and drive it anywhere. As with any 41 year old car, there are some minor issues: Due to a fender rebuild and strengthening, the right front tire rubs a little on the inside of the fender on hard turns (turning radius is very agile so this only happens in close quarters). The floor panels are not in the best shape, but are solid and more than serviceable. They will need a bit of welding TLC as they each have some rust around the drain holes. The rear hatch and bumper have a minor dent and chipped paint (hatch still in alignment and closes tight). Tachometer does not show RPM's, but I have been told this is a simple job for a good diesel mechanic with electrical experience. The A/C has been recharged and works, but seems weak during this hot dry summer we're having. Vehicle also includes a full set of factory service manuals, spare rebuilt turbo center section (worth $650), and 3 boxes of assorted extra parts. The car easily passed Colorado's strict emission requirements within the last year, and is fully titled and licensed as a 1971 240Z with a diesel engine. It's driven at least weekly, and drives and shifts without any problems. As with any 41 year old car, I can always find things to putter with on it. Terms of Sale This offer constitutes no warranty or guarantee whatsoever. Seller has done his best to represent vehicle accurately. By bidding on this vehicle, you agree that the purchase will be final regardless of omissions or errors. Buyer is fully responsible for pickup and transport from Denver, CO. The clear title will be signed over upon receipt and verification of full payment. Thanks for looking and Good Luck Bidding! On Aug-03-12 at 06:44:02 PDT, seller added the following information: The BUY IT NOW price reflects less than 1/4 the $40,000 invested in this car! As mentioned earlier, this vehicle was designed to showcase biodiesel fuel, and what could be done to reduce our reliance on oil. It was one of the first attempts at a GREEN vehicle. It was featured on numerous network TV shows, and written about in magazine articles. It was one of the subjects of Josh Tickell's book "From the Fryer to the Fuel Tank", one of the very first books on do-it-yourself biodiesel processing. Josh was a pioneer in biodiesel awareness, and is still promoting energy self-reliance through his organization. While not trying to overhype the car, the Veggie Car is truly a piece of history. A copy of the book is included with the car.
