Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1991 BMW 318is coupe that runs and drives great! This car was an original owner vehicle from Los Angeles, CA. I had purchased it as a project. The car had been sitting in the original owner's driveway for over three years. It had blown the second head gasket in 1500 miles and the owner had given up. The original owner had the engine repaired by what was supposed to be a reputable BMW shop in Hollywood, but they just took him for a ride and did a very poor repair on the car for a lot of money. Up until that time, it had been garaged. I have spent several months and several thousand dollars bringing her back to life and refining it to be a truly reliable BMW. As most of you who are viewing this auction will know, this was a one year only production...a very rare vehicle. Mechanical: Newly rebuilt complete head with the notorious valve cracking areas cut and built up by So. Cal's best known M42 performance head specialist. New timing chain, gears, guides, and tensioner New Water pump, thermostat, housing New oil pump, pan gasket, bottom end gaskets New fuel injectors, new coolant to block fittings New iridium spark plugs New synthetic oil and filter New air filter, O2 sensor, radiator hoses... Goodyear performance tires with less than 2K miles Ice cold A/C! New brake pads with less than 500 miles Brake system completely flushed Trans. fluid changed with synthetic fluid New top of the line battery. All complicated pre-heat intake plumbing removed for simplicity and reliability per M42 website (still will pass any state smog with ease, even visual). The climate control works correct and the A/C is nice and cold. No overheating, even when idling for long periods of time. All lower shrouds under the engine are present and in good shape, which is rare. Interior: Very, very nice original interior showing great pride of ownership! The dash top has a few sun cracks, which are common on the E30 body. The shifter knob leather has some use wear. Other than that, a beautiful interior. The dash lights up clean and bright, just like new. Factory Recaro front seats.... Manual sunroof works perfect, but needs the little black knob on the handle. Doesn't affect operation. The radio face is missing, it was missing when I purchased her, and the odometer is not currently working. The red light is flashing, meaning that it is hooked up and waiting for the face. All in all, a beautiful interior showing way less than average wear and real pride of ownership. Exterior: Most of the paint is the original and in beautiful shape. It appears that the RR quarter panel and the spoiler have been repainted, but look great. There is a little clear coat fading on the right "C" pillar, but hard to see. There are a couple of random small parking lot dings, but hard to see unless you look close. There is some light bumper damage to the LH front. The top bumper cover is missing about 6 inches of red plastic right as it rounds the corner to the fender. There are some light scratches on the sides of both front fenders where a mechanic must have been wearing a belt. Not bad, but just mentioning them. All in all, a beautiful car that draws attention and admirers all the time. All interior and exterior lighting works perfect. The wheels are the factory BBS mesh style, but are the rare optional chrome units. There are 3 center caps missing. They were stolen off the car about 2 weeks after I purchased her. The factory power antenna needs a body grommet and a new mast. This car is truly beautiful! The trunk is missing the spare tire and the battery cover. Both disappeared when I had it over at the shop that did the engine work. The jack and accessories are still there. There are a couple of tools in the tool kit left. All in all, a really nice driving and very reliable BMW that is both fast and very rare. Don't miss out on this one of a kind original Southern California 318is. Very collectable and ready to cruise. Gets 35MPG while having a lot of fun! Beautiful handling sport coupe. Not a mint car and certainly needing a few items tinkered with, but a far better than average example of a very rare and collectable BMW. The car has a clean title, but has not been registered since 2009. The buyer will be responsible for all fees. I do have all of the original manuals and books for the car.
