DescriptionAt The Sell It Now Store, we sell a number of vintage cars and trucks. You are looking at a PROJECT one owner 1974 Mercedes Benz 450-SL with low miles and a very unique history. This car is a 107,044 original mile survivor and has a very unique history. The condition is not for the faint of heart and should be considered a project. Early on, it has a repaint and some bodywork due to Wisconsin weather, but then it was hit and stored since that time. This car is from the Balistrieri family and was purchased in 1975 as a leftover 1974 model. We are not able to list everything this car needs but know it has had some floor pan work before it was hit, and will need some extensive work to get it back on the road. Also note that this vehicle has not been started for probably 10 years, and we have no way to gauge the condition of anything mechanical, including the engine, transmission, brakes or any other component. The SL is a 2-seat convertible/roadster with standard soft top and optional folding seats for the rear bench. Volume production of the first SL, started in April, 1971. Cars wore the name 350 SL, but had a larger 4.5L V8 (and were renamed 450 SL/SLC for model year 1973); the big V8 became available on other markets with the official introduction of the 450 SL/SLC on non-North American markets in March, 1973. US cars sold from 1972 through 1975 used the Bosch D Jetronic fuel injection system, an early electronic engine management system. The 1974 was the last of the cars without the cat system. The Balistrieri family, who owned the Shorecrest Hotel, including “Snug's” which was open from 1976 to 1996 have a deep history in Milwaukee. In 1984, the Shorecrest Hotel was among the first privately owned properties to be listed in the States of Wisconsin's Registry of Historic Buildings and The National Registry of Historic Places.The bad news as stated above, is this car has had rust issues. We are amazed that the jack, toolbag, spare and other components are still there, even the radio. We also have not tested any of the electronics. Remember, this is a project car. Current prices in the United States range from $3,000 for basket cases to upwards of $30,000 for nicely restored examples. Consider the value of these down the road – better than the stock market. This would make a great addition for the SL Car enthusiast that has everything, Best of all, there is NO reserve. Just to be clear - this car has been hit, and has had rust issues and we are unsure of the extent of the damage. You are buying this car either as a project or for parts and needs to be trailered due to age. It should be completely gone through before ever attempting to start or drive it.
