Vehicle Detail

Rare 1979 VW Scirocco MK1 I bought this car in 1988, and have been driving it regularly up until last year, 2011. In 1990, I swapped out the original 1.6L for an 83 GTi 1.8L with 50K miles. Since then, I updated the Bosch K Jetronic system, ignition, and smog equipment so it could be certified by California BAR. The tag is inside the driver’s door. The odo quit in the 80s, so I have no idea how many miles are on this vehicle. (eBay requires a mileage figure, but that is only a very rough estimate) It runs great now, and it’s never broken down on me, but I can’t guarantee this for the next owner. It has a lot of miles and probably needs a rebuild and body repair. This car would make a great project car for autocross or racing. It doesn’t burn oil as far as I can tell, it accelerates smoothly, shifts well, and handles great for having two worn out tires in the back. At this point, it’s probably worth more in parts than whole, but I have fantasies of it retiring to the racetrack or somebody’s collection.
