It has a only a few flaws. It could use right side ball joints replaced, the exhaust system is in excellent condition but needs adjustment as it was installed so it taps on the frame rail when starting or downshifting. It has an aftermarket steering wheel but I have a NOS steering wheel in blue which comes with the car. It is very hard to find an all original matching numbers, low mileage, Firebird 400, 4 speed convertible. This is a very rare car. Not many were built and very few survived. Don't really want to sell but have no room to keep it properly stored. It was kept in heated storage all off season here in WI. It needs someone who will appreciate it and in return it will appreciate for you. Below is some history and specs on the '67 first gen Firebird 400 Convertible found at a few resources on the web. There is much more out there. Thanks for looking and please feel free to call me at 262 470 7224 with any questions. Mike The 1967 Pontiac Firebird 400 was a mid year model first released on February 23, 1967 five months after the Chevrolet Camaro. Pontiac was able to use that additional time to create a unique and premium identity for the Firebird. The split front grille, six vertical louvers on the rear quarter panel, GTO styled dual hood scoops and slit taillights gave it a distinctly Pontiac appearance. Designed from the GM's F-Body platform but using the GTO's A-Body drivetrain with a different rear end and sub-frame. Improvements were made to the F-Body engine placement, front suspension, and reinforced rear springs. But the key differentiator was under the hood, where the Firebird offered a range of Pontiac engines. Initially, five different Firebirds were available, named after their respective engine choices. At the top was the 400 V8 from the GTO. This engine was rated at 325 bhp, though removing a linkage stop allowed it to produce 350 HP equal to the GTO. All V8s came with a standard 3 speed heavy-duty manual transmission, 4 speed was optional. (This car has the optional 4 speed transmission.) Production ( '67 Firebireds, 400s only, was 18,632 but this is for all body styles not just convertibles of which there were much less): Hardtop Coupe: 67,032 Convertible: 15,526 Engines: 230 I6 (1bbl) 165 bhp. 230 I6 (4bbl) 215 bhp. 326 V8 (2bbl) 250 bhp. 326 V8 HO (4bbl) 285 bhp. 400 V8 325 bhp @ 4800 rpm, 410 lb-ft @ 3400 rpm. 400 V8 (Ram Air) 325 bhp @ 5200 rpm, 410 lb-ft @ 3400 rpm. The high performance 400 V-8 with four-barrel Quadrajet produced 325 horsepower at 4800 rpm, and came with a heavy duty floor shift three-speed, twin (non-functional) scoops, heavy duty springs, wide-oval red-line tires, chrome air cleaner, dual exhaust, declutching engine fan, heavy duty battery, heavy duty starter motor, heavy duty radiator, and chrome rocker covers and oil filler cap. This was added for $358.09. On top of this, an extra-cost four-speed manual was available for an additional $273.83. Performance: 400/325: 0-60 in 6.2 sec, 1/4 mile in 14.7 sec @ 98 mph. This is a link to a First Generation 1967 Firebird website which has lot of detailed information about the car. Sorry eBay formatting blew this link up. Search "First Generation Firebird". Thanks. The Pontiac Firebird 400 was built by the Pontiac division of General Motors beginning in the 1967. The Firebird 400 was introduced the same year as the automaker’s platform-sharing model, the Chevrolet Camaro. In 1966, ready to compete in the new and competitive Pony Car market, one of Pontiac’s top designers was assigned the task of transforming the Chevy Camaro, called the F-car, into a true Pontiac. Due to the later start of design, Pontiac was not ready to announce the Firebird until late January of 1967. By then, Pontiac had five versions of the Firebird. The main differences were the engines, which came directly from the tempest line. They offered two 6-cylinder engines and three different V8’s. The V8’s came with stiffer rear springs with radius rods for better stability, a lower axle ratio, and an optional 4-speed gearbox. The top of the line Firebird was the 400. It came with a 350 horsepower motor from Pontiac's musclecar, the GTO. To appear to be in line with the GM horsepower guidelines, Pontiac listed the engine at 325hp. To keep speeds down, Pontiac had installed a device that did not allow full throttle. Performance enthusiasts quickly learned that this could easily be removed, instantly adding 25hp to their new Firebird. Tests showed that the Firebird 400 was faster than the GTO. Some GTO buffs were more than a bit annoyed at this, as others joined the growing Firebird ranks. Released about 6 months after the Camaro, the Firebird shared several body parts with the Camaro being the greenhouse, doors and trunk lid. The split front grille with integrated bumper, beaked hood, louvered rear quarter panels, and GTO-slitted taillights gave the new Firebird it’s distinct Pontiac appearance. The difference also came with the engine options. Sources: Motor Trend Mag. March ‘67, ClassicFirebird.com, OldRide.com, and Wikipedia.org.
