Vehicle Detail

DRIVEN DAILY! Not a sign at a car show but in fact, this has been my car since I built it from scratch 9 years ago. You see a lot of hot rods on this site & around that suffer from unbecoming lines. In other words, no curbside grace or as some call it, "THE LOOK". I think you will agree this is a beautifully coupled hot rod with a perfect stance. I have built many hot rods over the years & have always been very fussy about the look. I have always thought that 6-cylinder inline hot rods were way too nosey, you know, long in the beak. I have set the engine back into the firewall a few inches so the car would not have that long nose & short stern look. Also, most hot rods of this type are built with 1 1/2 inch x 3 inch box tube chassis. This car is a high boy sitting on a 2 x 6 square tube chassis & I have cut a taper into the chassis up to two inches in the front. Then I pinched the chassis in the front so it would not be wider than the grill shell. I added a full belly pan to give the car visual weight. You will note that the split wishbones, front & rear, are long, come very close together in the center & are not at some God awful angle. Also, to balance the length of the nose, I used a full length '29 Model A bed. I chopped the top & raked back the windshield. You will note that the rake in the windshield matches the angel of the top bow. These small features are well thought out & no mistake. It gives this car smokin' hot look & stance. I have always believed that hot rods should have three pedals & a stick shift. And I hate when folks put a stick shift on a GM corporate tranny & bend it from under their legs so they can get to it. This stick comes right out of the dead center WHERE IT BELONGS and that was no easy feat. It has a Ford Econoline steering box & a new old stock three spoke Jeep Sheller steering wheel & I am here to tell you, it steers like a baby carriage with no play or slop whatsoever. It is a rock solid driver. The transmission is coupled to a sweet running 250 Chevy 6 with twin carbs. It has 15" steelies with new tires & '50 Merc hubcaps & trim rings. I would trust this car to drive anywhere in the country. It has an Econoline front axle that has been shortened & coupled to a Model A spring. It has a 9" Ford Econoline rear as well. It cruises at 60 at 2000 RPM's. Because it is under 2000 pounds, it gets around 25 MPG (pretty cool for a hot rod, I would say). I would like to brag if you will allow me. This is the most home-built hot rod in the U.S. I believe. I designed it, built it, upholstered it, made the top & bows, painted it & pinstriped it with no outside help. The louvers are the only thing on the car that were not done by me. They were done by my friend, Ken Ginnings who has the louver press in town. I count him to be in the top 5 car builders & customizers that I have ever met. And I am quite proud of the fact that he had anything to do with the car. You will notice the "Lady Luck" emblems on the cowel. They are not decals - I hand painted them. This car has no funky issues - it runs perfect & strong, tracks straight, does not shimmy or wobble all around. My dear friend, Billy Crewl, has even taken this car to El Mirage & ran it up to 100 MPH. In the nine years I have owned it I have replaced the alternator, the battery, the clutch, one front wheel bearing & one rear wheel bearing. This car is not a trailer queen of any type. It has never seen the inside of a garage which is not hard to do here in Southern California. The chassis has altogether nine cross members welded in. Of course, the front & rear cross member & transmission cross member you would expect, but the rear body mounts are on a separate cross member as are the rear shocks, bed mounts & such. "The chassis is rock sold with zero flecks." And although the cab is fiberglass, the door is from any original Model T as is the belly pan, bed & grill shell. So those of you who want to know if it is a steel car, 95% of it is. I would like to say, I am also fussy about reinforcing fiberglass bodies. I prefer to have zero flecks. There is copious amounts of oak reinforcement with an all wood interior upholstery liner. You can slam the door & see no movement in nothing. So here's the deal - I cannot stand high reserve auctions. I find them annoying & horse droppings. I will start this auction at $20 bucks & if it doesn't move off $20 bucks, that is what you pay. It seems to me that most folks selling their stuff & I don't care what it is, want to sell their goods because they have an inflated vision of what the price should be. I believe in this world it is what it is. The hot rod buying public will let me know what this car is worth. I have also noticed that no matter what is sold on eBay, by me or anybody else, comes to its value by the end of the auction without question. I also know that the person that bids the last, you know, the so-called snipers, don't win the auction because they were the last to bid. They won it because they bid the most. All you snipers amuse me. You all think you can wait until the last second & sneak up on it. Some of you even have a sniping computer app. I got news for you folks, 50,000 have a sniping app. So what good does yours do?? PLEASE, IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS - CALL ME ANYTIME YOU LIKE. I CANNOT STAND EMAILS BACK & FORTH BECAUSE I TYPE SLOW. My name is Frank Bird & my phone number is (951) 658-9386. If you are from around here, come by & I will take you for a ride. Check it out in person. I have nothing to hide. You will note - I have a lot of feedbacks & they are all positive. I don't play games & expect you not to. So good luck & God bless.
