Vehicle Detail

For sale: BMW 525i E34 ultra low miles, pristine condition. Perfect as daily driver or for a BMW E34 enthusiast or collector. I have never seen a better E34 on the road. I bought this car from a dealership in June 2009 from a dealer to which the original owner had traded it in. It had 36,000 miles then, and I’ve added another 16,000 since, or less than 6,000 miles per year. I am selling the car because I use it very little and now have no indoors garage space for it, so it seems a pity to keep it outside all year. The car is in mint condition. It is an excellent daily driver, with all the safety and comfort items you’d expect from a new car today -- 2.5 liter in-line six cilinder engine, four-speed auto gearbox, ABS brakes, traction control, power steering, 10-way power heated seats, power heated mirrors, power one-touch down windows all around, power one-touch up driver’s window, power one-touch open and close tilt sunroof, central lock, dual zone air conditioner (blows cold as it should), on-board computer, six-speaker radio and cassette player. The exterior is in excellent shape. Color is Orientblau metallic, a shade of dark blue that is one of the most elegant colors for this BMW model. There are the usual surface scratches but no deep scratches. (What I mean is that if you stand five feet from the car you will see no scratches at all except for one on the rear bumper visible in pictures.) There are also no dings or dents I know of (see pictures). Paint is intact. The front door guards in the bottom have been replaced because I had the lower door area checked for rust (an usual area of concern in E34s) and they are entirely rust-free. All tires are in good condition with about 50% of threat left, as are brakes, engine, etc. The interior -- in beautiful very light gray -- is also in mint condition. No blemishes in the light gray carpet (I use custom-made all-weather mats, so no dirt goes on the carpets.) The leather on the seats is in excellent condition. There are a few small rubs but no deep creases, cuts, or other blemishes. The headliner is in excellent condition as well. There is some looseness in the trunk shelf liner, but it is not a problem nor does it look bad (see picture). I have the car fully detailed every year, so there is no accumulation of dust or dirt anywhere. Trunk is in perfect condition, as is spare tire. All electrical functions work perfectly except for the very minor issues noted below. The air conditioner has two temperature zones and is fully charged. The car also has 10-way power seats (both driver’s and passenger’s) with two-stage heating. In short, this is a pristine E34, which would last you many years as a daily driver (the powertrain in these cars is good for at least 200,000 miles, often 300,000) or could be the car you’ve been looking for if you’re an E34 enthusiast. Since I bought the car, I have replaced the following parts:As a precaution given age of vehicle, upon purchasing car I ordered the following replacements: engine oil gasket, water pump (original plastic impeller pump replaced with Graf metal impeller pump), thermostat and housing, front thrust and lower arms.Earlier this year, I had the complete suspension replaced, using full suspension kit, including new struts (Boge) and shocks all around, new front strut mounts, new rear shock mounts, new trailing arm bushings, new front control arm and support arm bushings, new front and rear sway bar end links, new strut and shock mounting nuts and bolts, and new front a rear spring retaining pads. This service was performed at a cost of over $1,100 in parts and $500 in labor and means the car’s entire suspension system is new.Oxygen sensor.New battery, purchased in February 2012.The car has also had its BMW Service II inspection performed at 40,000 miles and regular oil changes since. Service II inspection includes changing interior air filter, engine air filter, flushing coolant, flushing brake fluid, checking brakes, hoses, belts, and spark plugs, at a cost of $700. Apart from normal (and minimal) wear and tear, the only aspects in which the car differs from when it rolled out of the factory eighteen year ago are the following very minor issues: Minor surface scratches all of which can probably be polished away (I have taken the pictures with low late-afternoon sunlight, so they magnify the scratches); Small (less than 1 sq. inch) surface rust spot on rear edge of sunroof closer to passenger side (see picture); The rear edge of the front driver’s door frame seal has some decay, which doesn't affect sealing, as this seal is merely cosmetic (see picture); Light on window opening switch on rear passenger door doesn’t come on when car lights are on;BMW flashlight in the glove compartment does not work (I’ve been trying to replace it for a while now but good ones are hard to come by...);The keyless remote doesn’t work. I’ve dropped it and it stopped working. I’m sure a BMW dealer can replace it. You have to lock/unlock car using key, which is effortless since car has central locks. I only have one key to the vehicle Of these issues, the only that might cause concern is the surface rust on the sunroof. As I said, it is less than one square inch. It has been there since I bought the care and has not expanded. Last summer I had the front bumper repainted to get rid of some scratches and asked whether I should replace the sunroof panel. The repair shop guy looked at it and advised me to do nothing. If you happen to be an E34 enthusiast, you may be wondering about the usual issues this car develops:As mentioned above, no rust in lower part of doors. When I bought the car, some of the cables activating the power seats were inoperative, so I had them repaired. All functions of the power seats are now fully functional. The usual warping on the passenger airbag cover is minimal, not noticeable (see picture). There are only two surface cracks on the entire panel woodwork (one on each front door) and none of it is major (see pictures). You need to look hard in order to see them. All the remaining woodwork is perfect -- no cracks and deep shine; The car has no mechanical problems, such as the common 50mph shimmy.Stereo system works fine, including all speakers. I use a Sony cassette adapter to connect my iPod to the system, which works perfectly and is very convenient, so I am including it in sale. I have also purchased an original owner’s manual for E34, included in sale. Furthermore, I am including a large BMW Motorsports umbrella and a cargo tote I keep in the trunk, plus a print-out of the car’s Bentley workshop manual, which is essential if you want to perform repairs yourself or have a clueless mechanic. For a picture album with more than 90 images of the car, please follow the link below: http://www.flickr.com/photos/npmonteiro/sets/72157630184296294/show/ Kelley Blue Book value for this car is $6,767 (given miles, extras, and excellent condition) but I am setting a lower reserve value for this auction. Given the rare, pristine condition of the car, I am setting the "Buy it now" value at $7,500. Please review pictures and ask questions before bidding. This vehicle is offered with no warranty. This car is a daily driver, so mileage may change a bit from pictures, less than a couple of hundred miles at most. One important piece of information: I am going on vacation on July 7 so the buyer must arrange for the car to be picked-up (after payment clearing) before that date.
