Vehicle Detail

This is a pre TDI Volkswagen 1.9L AAZ series turbo diesel. Several places are importing these engines into the US for use in small SUVs like the Suzuki Samurai, they are considered much more robust than the TDI and easier and cheaper to work on. It does not have an intercooler like the TDI as is mechanical indirect injection. It makes around 75 hp vs the 90 hp of the 1996 TDI. The injector pump was replaced by a VW Parts Place Reman pump 2 years ago. The injectors were also replaced at this time. This body style Passat is the German made super solid body, quality door hinges, heavy solid doors, etc. It has more cargo space than any Passat, Jetta Wagon or similar car including Subaru Outback. Has a large almost 20 gallon fuel tank. I went 1060 kilometers (dash in kilometer and Litres) on last tank mostly in town and was not nearly empty. Would be great for a biodiesel conversion for WVO. This was loosely my plan for the car and a repaint, but with two small children don't have the time or money Tires are very good about 1.5 years old and 85% tread. Brakes also good, but ABS light is on. AC blows cold charge is perfect and has not leaked any in the time I've had the car, but baffle in the control box is stuck so will only blow out the bottom vents or the dash/defroster vent. I understand this is a simple fix in front of the shifter, but have not gotten to it. The CD/ stereo is aftermarket and works well. Both front power windows work, the one rear does not. I have a spare motor and internals parts for that door from another Passat I had. This may fix it, have not gotten to it. Cruise control does not work but I think it is the relay near the shifter that needs replacing. A guy here on Ebay will reman them for $75. I had this done on another Passat. Also have various other Passat spares will include with car including 2 air bags. Interior is very good with no rips or burns in the seat. Dash in not cracked. Uses about 1 quart of oil in 3000 miles. Previous owner says he hit a deer. The hood is dented as seen in pics and front fender also. The hood latch was always sticky and stopped latching a few weeks ago. I'm a sailor so replaced with a rope lashing tie-down as seen in the picture. I have the latch and maybe could be fixed up. Other main issue is an exhaust leak under the hood. VW Parts Place, place thinks it is exhaust gasket, but I think maybe is downpipe or downpipe gasket. Might also be the EGR pipe or gaskets. The leak is not to bad and does not affect highway driving, but you do notice a diesely smell when in town or stopped at lights. Car also has many minor dings and scratches. Some minor rust spots and paint bubbles some were poorly patched by previous owner. NO RUST on the underside of the car or in the tire wells or floorboards. Car was originally in British Columbia and then in Oregon before being shipped to North Carolina. I bought it from NC guy. Car has a clear title, not a gray market, etc. No problem getting insurance. I have been using car as daily driver, but decided to upgrade. Overall a pretty decent car for the age and VERY RARE with the mechanical. Exhaust leak needs attention, but nothing else in near future. I would not hesitate to drive home on the highway, but again, I drive in town with the windows down because of the exhaust leak. There is no title issue or problem with getting insurance. I have a clear normal florida title and car had a previous clear NC title. The report shows a problem with gray market title, but this is only because was originally in Canada.
