Welcome to this once in a lifetime auction of a true survivor 1981 280ZX Turbo in the best color combination and with all the bells and whistles offered in 1981. This is a unique memorial day weekend auction that will not repeat for some time. NO RESERVE. I am letting the market set the price of this collectible. First things first. This car ia a gem. 100% original and in very very good condition. Everything is disclosed below. The 280ZX is considered by auto experts to be one of the best sports cars ever designed and produced. You can spot this car coming at you from a mile, it has a sexy look, an awesome sound and a great stance. In 1981, Nissan offered the first turbo 280ZX and this is what you got here. The 1981 280ZX Turbo was faster than any production Mustang, Camaro or Corvette and competed well with the most german sports cars. In today's market, you can spend a lot more money on a sports car but I will guarantee you (if you have driven a turbo 280ZX) that there are not many cars that will give you the enjoyment of driving a turbo Z. This Z will get all the looks and compliments from the average Joe as well as the car enthusiast, unlike many other cars. This car is truly a work of art. I have owned now 14 280ZX's (model years 1981 to 1983), 11 of which were Turbo models and all of which have been 2 seaters so I know what I know about these cars and I can tell you that you will be hard pressed to find a comparable collectors Z like this one. This Z will only appreciate in value if you keep it original and while enjoying it occasionally. I have added a couple of pics of my other 280ZX's so you can see the quality of cars I go for. Condition The pictures will tell you the story and I can email more specific photos to the seriously interested but here is a summary: Interior: Almost new condition, the 1981 280ZX has high back seats which are unique to this year model, these are much more sporty and luxurious than seats in the 1982 or 1983. The passenger seat is hardly sat in, driver seat has very little wear. Leather is in very good condition and smells like leather. Original Z logo floor mats are in great condition for their age and come with the car as well as after market custom logo'd 280ZX floor mats. All carpet is as it was new, excellent condition overall. T-tops are as new, come with dealer installed locks with keys and do not leak at all. They come with covers and bags which are both in great condition. All insruments as well as clock and cassette deck work an new. Turbo boosts to just near red zone under full throttle just as it should. Car comes with dealer installed security alarm system which still works. Dash is free of any defects and looks perfect. Inside door panels look better than any of my previous Z's. Rear hatch area is clean and complete. The only negative here may actually be a positive for the true collector as it shows originality of this Z. Basically, part of the velour on the roof (driver side) is falling down (glue wears off after 31 years apparently) and some of the vinyl in the rera hatch area is coming off (which happens to all 280ZX's even after 4-5 years. Finally, the original struts that hold the rear hatch open are losing their gas and ned replaced soon. Also, spare, air filler, jack and tools are all new. Interior Rate: 99% Exterior: As near perfect condition, no accidents whatsoever. The paint is swirl free and shines great. There is 0% rust anywhere. The undercarriage looks more like 3-4 uears than 31. No dings or dents on any of the panels. There is one scuff mark (1 inch) on the front fender (driver side) which is very hard to detect and easily fixable as well as a couple of small surface scratches ( edge under the fuel door, from filling gas and on rear driver side fender). They are both easy to correct, if you want to spoil the originality of the car). Exterior Rate: 98% Engine: Wow. The engine starts, idles and runs as new. The turbo spools beautifully. This engine is hardly broken into. Nothing leaks and everything works as expected. All parts that need maintenance have been recently replaced with OEM or best available. No flaking on the metal in the engine bay, no corrosion of any of the copper parts. This engine is ready to win some "best of" shows. Engine Rate: 100% Mechanical: WOW again, everything works as day one. AC blows cold, heater works right. Automatic Air Temperature works as new. Braks hold tight and have newer pads. All mechanical components are new and work as new. This Z was taken car of properly.Mechanical Rate: 100%Suspension, Wheels & Tires: Just as new. The shocks, struts and springs work as they did day 1. This Z handles as it did in 1981. Rides absolutely awesome. The wheels are free of any curb rash and have only a few slight scratches but look great and are all original. The tires are OEM size and have tons of tread left and rubber is still healthy . All wheels and suspension parts are original. Suspension, Wheels &Tires Rate: 100% Other Notes: - Rating considers age of car. Undrstand that this is a 31 year old car.....it is not brand new. However, this Z is super super clean even by a newly purchased vehicle standard.- All Glass is original and perfect. All trim is original and very good condition. - Auto-check score of 44 (which is impressive and clear carfax). - Car can be veiwed in Raleigh, NC before auction ends. I recommned this if you can.
