1997 Volvo 850 – Blue – 2.4L 5-cylinder – AutomaticLocation: Atlanta, Georgia, 30307 I purchased this car in 2005 in New Jersey with 98,000 miles, however, it has remained in Georgia for all 7 years. (No salt exposure, clean body and underside). This car has been extraordinary reliable and driven daily. The odometer stopped functioning at 111,892 miles. I would conservatively estimate it has about 168,000 miles considering my commute and low amount of driving during it's early years in college. I know this car extremely well and the listing below is very detailed. Please feel free to send me any questions or request for pics. Any owner of a Volvo from the Swedish-era will attest to the quality, reliability and fun of these cars. This car is a great and safe commuter. With all normal maintenance it will last a while. Exterior Color: Blue Interior Color: Tan (light) Engine. 2.4L 5 cylinder Transmission: Automatic MPG: EPA Rated 21 City/29 Highway Air Conditioning Front & Side Impact Airbags Power Windows Power Locks Power Steering AM/FM CD Stereo: 6 Speaker Cloth Interior Cruise Control Heated Seats Folding Rear Seats Sport/Econ transmission mode 15” Wheels, All 4 Volvo OEM hubcaps. Interior: Seats are in very good condition and clean. Dash shows some signs of heat expansion from sunny days. Plastic is in overall good condition with some cracking typically of the age. Front floor mats are included, carpet is in good condition. Exterior: The body and paint is overall very good for the age. Still very shiny. There is some paint chipping but no rust near the rear passenger’s door. The front driver's side quarter panel has a small dent but no scratching. (See photo). The windshield has a chip with total area smaller than a dime. (See pic) Engine: 2.4L non-turbo engine built for efficiency and durability. (No turbo burnout) On long trips, I have gotten it to 33 mpg. The engine has never given me a problem and has been extraordinarily reliable. There is a minor oil leak of 1 quart a month, typical of a car this age. The speedometer functions 50% of the time, probably the result of a loose sensor/cable. Transmission: Good condition, shifts well. PNP switch needs to be replaced and sometimes causes the transmission to default to 3rd gear. (Limp mode) This can be temporarily resolved by restarting the car and adjusting the shift lever. ****Replacement PNP switch is included, $150 value*** Can be replaced per the instructions below or less than an hour at a trained mechanic. The PNP switch has caused the “check engine” light to come on. http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=29930 The shift lever release sometimes gets stuck in park, can be released by tapping the brake a few times or using the “shift lock override” button. Tires: About 15% tread remaining, some inconsistent wear from before a realignment Brakes: Brakes work well. Brake pads are metallic and squeak a little in hot weather which is natural of metallic brake pads. The ABS computer does not function causing the ABS light to turn on. A replacement can be found for as low as $50. Easy location to replace. Battery: Replaced in September 2011, brand name, very strong. AC: Blows cool, not super strong, but effective. (Typical of a Swedish car) Other: Car makes a ticking noise on sharp turns when first started in cold weather. The service light turns on for the first minute after started. Volvo dealers turn it off after an oil change, non-dealers tend to forget unless requested. Thank you!!
