Built in Kansas City, KS. Of the 85,332 Comets built in 1961, this baby was the 27,609th Comet ordered. I have owned it for the past eight or nine years and have used it for a daily driver when the weather is good. I enjoy watching people stop in their tracks to watch this sweetheart go by. It is clearly a 20-footer, but turns heads none the less. It is mechanically sound. You will see little black spots various places on the pictures. Before I bought the vehicle it was being driven as a daily driver for a student who thought it would be cute to put bullet hole decals on the vehicle. They are cute. Prior to the student, there was another student in the same family who used the car as a daily driver. Prior to that it was being driven as a daily driver by another party who had rescued the Comet out of a barn where it had been stored by the older couple who had originally bought it. If you are unfamiliar with Comet, let me explain its origin. Edsel wanted to enter the compact car market and designed the Comet. Before it could be produced, Edsel had been dissolved. So the 1960 and 1961 Comets were neither Edsel nor Mercury - just Comet. It was not until 1962 that Mercury started to put its name on the Comet. It is a sweet little car with a sweet history.
