Vehicle Detail
This is an awesome 1968 Mercury Cougar, this car is, clean, nice great example of a California car that has been in storage for over 20 years. I bought the car in pieces and put it together. The 302 motor that was originally in the car was locked up, I replaced it with a 289 from a 1966 Mustang, it runs great. The brakes and lines have been replaced and reworked. Lots of time, labor, parts, and sweat went into this car. It would cost more than $20,000 to put it together, if you can find one this solid after 40 plus years , (reserve is way lower than that). You can see from the first couple of pictures how the car started out. This is one exceptional Cougar. Please ask questions. I will answer all to the best of my ability. Please bid to win, if you can not pay what you bid, do not bid, all zero bidders please answer your e-mails or I will remove your bid. Relisting cars gets expensive, full of hassels and very frustrating. On May-05-12 at 09:10:20 PDT, seller added the following information: Just to help with some of the questions that have been asked. List of things that were bought/ done to car: new vinyl top ($350), new windshield, all new window rubber seals front and back ($350), trim and felt ($150), new headliner ($100ish), new carpet($135), seats refurbished ($400), new battery, wires, plugs, cap, rotor($375), rebuild carb ($175), clean and paint engine compartment ($100), brakes total rebuild ($750), bearings, fluids (antifreeze, lubricants, brake fluids, and trans fluid)($175),replace/change engine ($1000), primer, paint and clear coat, materials bla, bla. I am sure there are other things i forgot. Rough estimate in parts alone I would say $4,000 plus maybe another $750 or so in e-bay parts purchases / things that I was missing, & in Labor (wow) lots of hours spent putting it all together (priceless) As you can see this car was totally apart. I tried to be cost conscience and not overspend to help keep the cost down. Have regular shop do it I am sure it would be over $20k. Initial purchase price $1,250, and try to find one that is not rotted out everywhere!!! Everything on this car was solid and I did not have to weld anything anywhere, I got a good deal and found a solid car to start with. Good thing is that 90% of parts were with the car and not missing. My next project is a 1969 RS, SS, 396 Camaro. My girlfriend drove this for a summer and now its time for the Cougar to find a new home. Hope this helps. On May-05-12 at 09:46:28 PDT, seller added the following information: The car has a tilt wheel, the hide away headlights do work, caps on overflow reservior, and wash fluid reservior need replaced. On May-06-12 at 07:22:03 PDT, seller added the following information: I have the fourth matching hub cap for the car, for some reason the fourth one wants to go flying off the car, so we do not want to loose it. The one on there is off of a mustang, the fourth cap is in good shape, I think the lip on the rim wont hold it on and I did not want to go the extra mile to change the rim/ tire.
