Vehicle Detail
This little “Gen One” Brat is a rare find. It is the DL model, with a 1600 engine, and shifts on the fly from front wheel to four wheel drive at 50 MPH. The pictures will not due it justice, so I will explain as accurately & clearly as possible. I purchased this car originally over two years ago, from a private party in Nevada. It had been sitting for some time, due to the engine frequently dying. The body was very nice & in original condition, with very minimal rust showing. It appears to me to have only had one fender replaced (amazing in itself). The car would run, but would die only after a few minutes, although the motor sounded strong, so I chose this car to restore. I towed the car to Southern CA, where I had my mechanic go to work on it. Compression tested strong & consistent with all cylinders. The pick-up coil was bad, causing the engine to quit shortly after stating it. We replaced the following mechanical items: · CV axle boots (4) * Spark Plugs · Ignition Coil Pick-up * Plug Wire Set * Ignition Coil * Fuel Filters (2) · Carburetor Rebuild Kit * Distributor Cap · Rear Wheel Cylinders (2) * Rotor · Front Lower Ball Joints * Fan Belt · Front Strut Rod Bushings (all) * Oil & Filter · Brake Master Cylinder * Radiator · Rear Main Seal * Radiator Hoses · Heater Hoses * Driveline U-Joints · Gas & Radiator caps * Oil Drain plug & Seal · Engine Block Decked * Complete Head gasket Set · Exhaust preheat hose *Anti-freeze I also had the Transaxle & transfer case disassembled for inspection, resealed & fluid changed. The transaxle showed minimal wear to internal components & clutch disc looked like new. Transmission was drained & fluids serviced. Rear Differential was drained & serviced. New Goodyear 175/70R13 M&S rated Weatherwise II tires. All trim was disassembled & car’s exterior was painted complete, including the inside of the bed. All underhood paintwork is original, with factory service decals still in place. I replaced the factory bodyside decals with a company that reproduced the originals with a 3M product that looks exactly as they should. Roll bar, pushbar & Jackman 5-spoke wheels were all sandblasted & powdercoated in Satin Black finish, including both bumpers (and even the spare tire!) There is also an extremely light duty trailer ball mount installed on rear bumper. Paint is a urethane basecoat/clearcoat, and extra basecoat is included with the sale (for any future paint touch-ups). Clearcoat was colorsanded & polished to a very nice finish. Interior was originally blue, and complete, but in rough condition. I had the dash wrapped in a black grain vinyl that came out looking terrific, considering no one reproduces a dash pad & I was not about to install a “dash cover” over the cracks. The seats were reupholstered in black with a plaid cloth insert, as well as the door panels. The headliner & sun visors, as well as the seat belts were all vinyl-dyed. The carpets were also replaced. The stereo had been replaced at some point with an AM/FM/Cassette deck, but an Ipod plays great thru an aftermarket adaptor and sounds even better with the 6X9 speakers that are in boxes in front of the seats. The rear “rocket” seats are in perfect condition, and the seat belts are like brand new. The rear headrests are not installed, but are included with the sale, as well as some A/C parts & miscellaneous lenses, etc. I added off-road lights to both the rollbar & pushbar, and they are wired correctly thru relays. I changed the instrument cluster as the GL model had a factory tachometer. The original inst. Cluster is also included with the sale. The mileage on the original odometer reads almost the same as the used one I located to gain the tachometer. I strongly believe the mileage is original, based on the overall condition of the car, as well as the compression test results as well as the fact the car just passed the stringent California emissions test on March 27, 2012, but I cannot confirm nor guarantee. The tags were just paid and are good in California until March of 2013, and the smog certificate is transferable until the 27th of June. The Brat has less than 300 miles since the above listed work has been performed over the past two years The Not-so-bad: Two of the four hard off-road lamp covers are cracked, as well as one of the front foglamp lenses has been cracked. The windshield had a chip (clamshell) in it on the passenger’s side, and I had it repaired by a” professional” that performed the most amateur job I have ever seen. I would recommend replacing the windshield & gasket, as well as the front hood molding (finish is flaking off, but hardly noticeable) to compliment the overall appearance. Also, the fuel gauge works 90% of the time; when it acts up, it is when you 1st start up, but reads accurately after 5 minutes or so of driving. Rear sliding window is missing the piece that the latch would lock to. One of the rear taillamp lenses is brand new; the other is discontinued & has a very slight crack in it. Other used tail lenses are included with the sale.
