Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1968 Ford F-100 pick-up that is in decent condition. It is powered by a 240 inline six with a three speed manual on the column. I bought this truck and the various parts that will be included with the intention of doing a Ford 'big-six' build-up, but have come to realize my schedule is too busy to ever touch it. The truck is in the same condition it was in when I bought it a little over a year ago. The previous owner had done quite a bit of mechanical work on the truck, the cosmetics were done long before he had it. I will try to describe the truck as well as I can without writing a novel....please email with specific questions. The truck is a '20-footer' (from 20 feet it looks pretty good), as the metallic blue paint on the truck is old and shows it's age with scratches, dings, and clear-coat failure on the roof. The truck does have some areas of rust as well. The tail-gate has some bubbling at the bottom, the bed seams are surface rusting, and the cab floors are rusty (passenger side isn't bad, drivers side has a hole towards the kick-panel), and the radiator support and inner fenders have some rust in the typical F-100 spots. Someone at some point built new cab corners with their own metal, and they did a nice job as the cab sits level and tight. The bed floor is just showing surface rust, and the front fenders have a few slight bubbles at the bottom (nothing too bad). The doors appear rust free, as does the rest of the cab other then the floors. The front bumper is tweaked, and the aluminum grille is presentable but could use a little straightening. Overall the body is serviceable as is (it does get compliments the few times I have driven the truck), but will need some effort put into it to really make it nice. The interior otherwise isn't bad, the seat has been reupholstered in blue vinyl and looks decent. The dashpad is cracked and has been covered with a carpet made into a dashmat. There is a Grant GT steering wheel that is old and starting to crack, and an old AM/FM cassette player that plays through small speakers hanging under the dash. There is no carpet as I removed it and tossed it to evaluate the floors. The heater works, as do all gauges and lights. The headliner is intact but dirty, and the windows are all in good shape (the rubbers for windshield and rear window could use replacing). The door weatherstripping is in good condition and the cab is pretty quiet at speed. The odometer shows 66xxx miles, but who knows how many miles are really on it..... Mechanically it appears the previous owner did some work (here's what I see and remember). There are new leaf springs in the back, newer shocks up front, and new coil springs up front. The power steering box was replaced with a rebuilt unit as well, and the steering linkage was supposedly replaced as well. The radius rod bushings are polyurethane, and the I-beam pivot bushings are new. The brakes were gone through with new hoses, wheel cylinders, and shoes/hardware kits, as well as a new manual master cylinder. The brake pedal is very firm and the truck stops well. The truck rides very smooth, and the steering is tight and straight.......truck just 'drives' well. The engine was supposedly rebuilt and looks recent, but doesn't have much power as I suspect the cam is going flat from valves that I found were adjusted too tight. The truck starts and runs OK, but top speed with the current engine is about 60MPH. It has an Autolite 1bbl carb, working manual choke, and a recent tune-up. There is also an aftermarket air cleaner on the 1bbl. The radiator was supposedly replaced as well as all hoses. The engine does run cool. The clutch seems to work OK but feels a little soft, and I think the two piece driveshaft could use a new carrier bearing. The truck has Liberator All Season radial tires installed that appear to be in good condition with plenty of tread, and unique chrome full 'moon' hub caps. The Duratstart battery also looks recent. Now for the extras. Included with the truck are some unique parts to wake up the performance of a Ford 'big-six'. Included is a brand new in box set of Pacesetter 72C1180 'ArmorCoat' ceramic coated headers that are no longer made (these were almost $500 when you could buy them), with rust and heat resistant shiny silver ceramic coating, a near new Clifford Performance 4bbl intake manifold that fits the Ford 240 and 300, a new Edelbrock ThunderAVS 500 cfm 4bbl carb, as well a rebuilt Ford 240 engine that I picked up from a local classified ad a year ago. Not pictured is a 3-speed floor shifter conversion, a Pertronix ignitor electron ignition conversion kit, and a few boxes of various extra parts (like the tonneau cover for the bed, another stock intake/exhaust manifold, extra distributor, various gaskets, a cable gas pedal that will be necessary for the 4bbl carb, and a few other miscellaneous items). I also have the owners manual. The truck is basically not in bad shape, has many new parts underneath, and comes with some expensive extra parts. To finish it, I'd recommend installing a cam of your choice in the included rebuilt engine, bolt on the included goodies, and toss it in the truck! It would be perfect for an F-100 fan looking to do something a little different then the usual V-8. I have a clean title in hand and would prefer cash for payment when the truck is picked up. I have a nice used tire that the new engine can sit in when placed in the bed of the truck as well. I will help load all the parts the truck comes with. Buyer responsible for pickup of vehicle. Please email with any questions and thanks for looking.
