Vehicle Detail
!!!NO RESERVE!!! This car was used as a “Festival Car” at the 1980 Indy 500. Kevin Graumann at http://www.transampacecar.com has confirmed this for me. You are bidding on a 1980 Turbo Trans Am Indy 500 Pace Car with 4.9 Liter turbocharged engine and 3 speed automatic transmission. I worked on restoring this car 10 years ago but it has just been sitting covered up since then. The engine was rebuilt, the torque converter was replaced, and the transmission was resealed. The starter, alternator, and intermittent windshield wiper motor have been replaced with all ACDelco parts. The engine has not been started since the rebuild because it had no ignition spark due to a bad ground. There is a new Edelbroch carburetor on the engine and the original Quadrajet is in the trunk. Every part inside of the distributor has been replaced and there is a new cap and coil in the trunk. It also comes with a new engine harness that has not been installed yet. The body is in good shape. The door skins have a few ripples in them. The rust on the hood, fenders, and quarter panel is only surface rust, the panels are solid. The turbo lights on the hood are melted due to a fire around the windshield wiper motor (judging by the stickers on the windshield this happened in late 93 - early 94). The interior carpet is dirty but has been kept dry and the floor pans are in great shape. The dash and center console appear to be good (no cracks). The driver’s seat is ripped up and the driver’s side door panel is lying in the back seat. As you can see in the pictures the windshield is cracked, but the rest of the glass is ok. The T-tops are mirrored/silver tinting. All of the tires are old and dry rotted. The passenger side tires hold air but the drives side will leak down within a few minutes. The car has 4-wheel disk brakes. This is the only 1980 Turbo Trans Am Indy 500 Pace Car that I’ve seen with the headlights high beam foot switch. A packet from the Pontiac Historic Services comes with the car. It includes a copy of the window sticker listing the selling dealer, build sheet, production numbers, and a booklet of all available options along with other documents. I had this car for sale 6 months ago but then found out that it was one of the cars that was indeed used at the Indy 500, and at the time I could not bring myself to sell it. This is a great project car, I just don’t have the time required to finish what I have started. Again THIS CAR WILL SELL TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER!!! Delivery up to around 700 miles from zip code 23002 is available for $1.00 per loaded mile. I accept PayPal and Cash On Delivery.
