FOR PARTS OR RESTORATION 1996 Land Rover Discovery XD. Limited run of I believe 10 trucks made by Landrover to pick the team for the Camel Trophy rally in 1997. This is truck number 4 and was featured on the cover of AutoWeek in their November 4, 1996 edition (see photo). Since the Camel Trophy trucks used in the rallies were all turbo diesels and since Land Rover would not certify their diesels for use in the United States, Land Rover built a small number of V8 powered trucks so that they could hold the trials in the US and also use them in other promotional events and advertising projects. Other than the use put to it by Land Rover I am the only private owner. The truck came with skid plates, winch, lights on the roof, roof rack and ladder and a manual transmission. I added the CB radio and fog lights. At the present time I have recently replaced the catalytic converter, the front shocks including the steering stabilizer shock, the front and rear brakes and rotors and the power steering unit and hoses. The truck was hit in the rear left side and needs body work. It also needs new air conditioning hoses and the seat support for the drivers seat. The seats have always had Land Rover water proof seat covers that will go with the truck. There is also an occasional vibration from what I think is a bearing in the transmission. The winch needs an overhaul and no longer works and the front brush guard and bumper need replacing. The truck has spent most of its life outdoors and as I live by the ocean there are rust issues underneath (inner and outer rockers and door pillars. The main frame is not rotted out. The 4 liter engine seems to run strong and has never been rebuilt, it has always run with the best 0-30 weight synthetic oil. The manual transmission and the V8 combine to make it a much more lively and responsive truck compared to the automatic transmission trucks they sold and continue to sell to the public. This truck would make an excellent candidate for a full major restoration because of its limited run. NOTE. Buyer must arrange transportation.
