Vehicle Detail

Let me start by saying that I am not a dealer ( I am not mechanically inclined either) and I have personally owned -and enjoyed- this car for about 10 years. I bought it from another individual in 2002 who also owned the car for about the same number of years, as I recall. It is a numbers matching car and I have the Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche to prove it (please see among the photos of the listing). The odometer shows 16,611 now but I believe it to be 116,611 as it has obviously turned over once. It has a 2.2 liter boxer engine, the original 5-speed manual transmission and the original zenith carburetors. This particular body, model year and color combination was the dream car of the person I purchased it from when he was a teenager and later on in life when he became a marketing executive found it, sympathetically restored it (repaint and mechanical maintenance and only the-necessary as I understand- upgrade to the tensioners in the engine) and drove it occasionally for pleasure. That is exactly how I used the car myself as well. So the car is driver quality with signs of good use as the photos attest. It has its fair share of dings but it did not have any accidents as far as I know except for a really minor one (from a NYC taxi driver door that was opened illegally while stopped at a traffic light and scrapped the front left fender many years ago that was professionally repaired). It was never raced to the best of my knowledge by any of the previous owners. It is an unmodified car down to all the interior including the radio and the antenna that I believe are all original. The underside I believe to be ok in general. The floors seem to me original (appear to have the typical factory stamping) and they have no rust and the jacking points are strong and I have lifted the car from there using the factory jack. I know that the heat exchangers will need attention in the future as I have been told by a specialized porsche mechanic that I took it last some 3 years back. There are also a few rust bubbles next to the gas filling flap. The engine has always worked perfectly under my watch and -one of those rare cases as far as I understand from reading other people's experiences with similar vintage 911s - has never leaked. I have done many long range trips with the car (NYC-northern VA, NYC-MA) and the car has always been extremely reliable with not even one incident. I think it would be fair to say that I have done maybe 10,000-12,000 miles during the time I have owned the car and I never had any problems with it during those trips. All the glass is good. The car has the desirable Fuchs wheels properly stamped I think and there is five of them including the spare. There are good tires on the car that I put on some 5 years ago. Regular oil changes and tune-ups were done up to 3 years ago when the long storage period started. All the electrics were and they should be in working order to my knowledge. Please note though that the rectangular Hella fog lights in the front spoiler area of the car are not any more with the car. I took them out during one of the flat bed moves among garages so that they will not be damaged but I miss-placed them somehow and lost them. However the fog light knob in the dash (which regretfully has now developed a minor crack -please see photo) is there and its original as far as I can tell and it was functioning perfectly. Overall it has been a great car and I have tried to describe it the best way I can. Please view the many photos that I have posted. Why am I selling it? I became a father 2 years ago and my life has changed in many ways. First of all I have no time available now (between spending time with my daughter and additional work related time obligations) for drives with my classic and also I have much less garage space following our move to a new house. As a result, while I have always kept the car garaged, I have not managed to drive it - not even once - during the last 2.5 years. Off course I have not attempted to start it after such a long period of idleness as I think that the fuel line must be cleaned first. I really hate to let the car go but given my circumstances I cannot give the attention or care for this car as I used to and believe it should have. There is a very reasonable reserve for this car but please do not ask me to reveal it as I intend to let this auction run its full course.Overall this is a good car in a wonderful and rare color combination that gets all the time compliments (even when I have simply transporting it by flat-bed from storage to storage recently and while is not even clean). It has also been a very fun car to travel with its nimbleness and peppiness and all the attention it gets everywhere from almost everyone. Thank you for your interest in my car and feel free to contact me with any questions. I will try to answer them the best way I can as I believe in full disclosure. The usual disclaimer for sale of a used car of this vintage applies here as well: This is naturally a used car and there are no explicit or implicit warranties of any kind that accompany its sale.
