Vehicle Detail
1974 Jeep CJ5. 258ci 6 cyl engine. 3 speed transmission, 2high 4high neutral 4low transfer case. 4:10 axles / w limited slip rear axle. I have owned this Jeep for 30 years. I never thought I would sell it but I guess that day has arrived! Since I thought I would always own it, I made many unusual modifications to it, to numerous to describe here. Here is a partial description. The running gear is mostly stock to a 74 CJ5, always maintained in very good running condition. The tub from the front floor back is mostly homemade .....springs are hand shaped......dashboard is made from 1/4" plate mild steel..........there are 2 ignition options available from key switch......back up lights are tractor headlights......bumpers are iron c channel......there is a Direct Engine Driven 1946 Ramsey Capstain Windless style winch on the front bumper capable of amazing power, (105 horsepower engine x 7to1 reduction), this winch can use an ENDLESS length of chain, cable, wire rope, or strap in any combination, it is currently set up for wire rope or cable..........various parts of the electrical system can be instantly deactivated from the dashboard............you can load a Coleman Ram X type canoe by yourself, secure it with only one strap and still drive with windshield folded up or down........the wheels look stock but are actually custom made for the tires you see on the vehicle........Warren locking hubs........limited slip rear axle.......oil and temprature gauges are fully fuctional Murphy Switch Guages..........super strong rear tow assembly with ball or pintle hook with 360 degree rotation.........rear tailgate to bumper spare tire carrier..... original engine, 258 cu. in. 6cyl. totally rebuilt about 80,000 miles ago, fitted with a 1980 water heated / cooled intake manifold with a 2 barrel Webber carburator taken from an Eagle wagon....newer Bestop seats and bimini top........Vehicale has been repainted every 3 or 4 years with Rustoleum Oliver/John Deere green for the body. Rustoleum black for the frame and barbaque black for the dash.......there is no rust on the frame or under carrige and very little on the body........ more..... Though totally streetable this vehicle like any CJ5 is better suited to a hunting camp or family cottage type situation. . .....NOTE: If you are looking for a pretty Jeep.....This is NOT it, that was Not a priority on my ta-do list, (I did get plenty of thumbs up on the way it looks over the years., most folks thought it an army Jeep because of the way it's painted). I have not driven this vehicle in a about 4 years that is why it is so dusty. Here are the issuses the Jeep has all minor, the bushings for the four wheel drive shifter are worn out (again) easy fix. There is NOTHING WRONG with the transfer case, but if the bushings are not replaced you have to crawl under the Jeep to shift it. Needs a new choke cable. The wiper motor has a short somewhere, don't know why, it worked when I parked it. The canoe rack needs about a 4"weld to repair it. There are some stress cracks in the factory firewall, I've lived with them for years. The radiator is getting old but still works and doesn't leak. I can give a very detailed description of the Jeep that I have not taken the time it would require, to type here. If interested PLEASE CALL 231-632-9907 as typing is difficult for me.
