Under its hood is a 3.2-liter 90-degree V-6, 18-valve SOHC engine available with a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission.Chrysler Group has the capacity to build approximately 20,000 units, of which 15 percent will be earmarked for international markets. The Company expects to produce 11,000 units this year. Chrysler Crossfire will be available mid-summer 2003.Note: This press information contains European specifications.America's classic Route 66 and Germany's legendary high-speed Autobahn are some of the most famous driving roads in the world. Next year, European motorists will be able to experience the spirit of both in Chrysler's all-new Crossfire, a sports coup? that combines American design with German engineering."Chrysler Crossfire is the sports coup? of the future; it's an American dream machine come true," said Dieter Zetsche, Chrysler Group President and CEO. "Following the footsteps of the Dodge Viper and Chrysler PT Cruiser, it's a great concept-to-reality story that combines head-turning design with world- class engineering."A production Chrysler Crossfire was shown for the first time in Europe at the Geneva Motor Show 2002. Chrysler's new eye-catching, two-seat sports coup? will be introduced in international markets - in both left- and right-hand drive - in the fall of 2003.At full production, the annual build capacity for Crossfire will be 20,000 units worldwide - with approximately 15 per cent of those units going to markets outside North America. The vehicle will first be sold in larger markets of Western Europe, Asia and Africa."Crossfire is the ultimate expression of the Chrysler brand," said Thomas Hausch, Executive Director of International Sales and Marketing. "It will embody the brand's values, show what the brand is capable of, and give Chrysler a confident entry into the European sports coup? market."The Chrysler Crossfire is a low-slung, two-seat coup? with a carved, sculptured appearance. Under the bonnet is a 3.2 V-6, 18-valve SOHC engine. It is coupled to a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission and drives the rear wheels."The expressive execution of Chrysler Crossfire is tangible proof of our capability to elevate and broaden the Chrysler brand," said Trevor Creed, Senior Vice President of Design. "From its distinct design to its potent powertrain and suspension, this modern American coup? is set to excite enthusiasts throughout the world."Crossfire Exterior: Sculptured, RomanticWith its long bonnet and fastback tail, Chrysler Crossfire's side profile is instantly recognisable. The car's broad shoulders envelop 19-inch rear wheels. The front wheels are slightly smaller, yet still measure an impressive 18 inches. With larger wheels at the rear, the side profile has a poised stance. The name "Crossfire" was conceived during the development of the vehicle's distinctive character line that moves precisely and rapidly from front to rear. The character line "crosses" to a negative formation from a positive one as it speeds from the front through to the rear wing. Wide, muscular rear wings conclude in the large, sculpted tail lamps. The side profile is complete with metallic-finished side air louvres."In addition to romantic shapes and sleek, athletic lines, we gave Chrysler Crossfire a new glass-to-body proportion," said Creed. "We made the body-sides tall while minimising glass surfaces. We wanted to give the driver that special feeling of being inside the cockpit of something very sporty, serious and protective."The sculptured bonnet showcases Chrysler's new signature winged badge, which spans the entire upper width of the chrome grille. Similar to Chrysler 300M, the headlamps have double circular elements within and carve into the front fascia. For additional design tension, six grooves run the length of the bonnet and complement the front grille. One of Chrysler Crossfire's most distinguishing features is the centre spine that runs the length of the car and accentuates the chiselled, carved appearance. The line starts at the front grille and concludes between the dual exhaust pipes. This centre spine form also appears on the door handles and exterior mirrors.Chrysler Crossfire's stunning rear view has a tapered, "boat tail" appearance that emphasises its large rear wheels, tyres and wings. A retractable spoiler is designed into the rear of the vehicle and activates when the car reaches 80 kph (50 mph).Crossfire Interior: Machined PrecisionChrysler Crossfire's sophisticated twin cockpit interior complements the exterior. The distinctive exterior centre spine shape also appears on the centre console, gear lever and instrument panel. From the driver's seat, the centre spine shape appears to continue from the instrument panel through the windscreen and on to the bonnet."Chrysler Crossfire's interior has a clean, precise, machined appearance," said Creed. "With a high waistline, you sit deep within the car. Once on board, there's no question you'll want to drive it."Seats are trimmed in leather with Chrysler's signature winged badge embossed into both head restraints. The ignition switch is located on the instrument panel as opposed to the steering column.Precise, elegant gauges are white-on-black with a metallic accent bezel and a chrome trim ring. The centre console is metallic and flows from the top of the instrument panel through the centre of the car to achieve a cockpit environment. Metallic accents are featured throughout the interior including on the doors, steering wheel and instrument panel."Chrysler Crossfire blends world-class technology with passionate, modern American design," concluded Creed.Chrysler will build Crossfire in Germany, in collaboration with Karmann, a long-time DaimlerChrysler partner with more than 100 years of manufacturing experience. Founded in 1901, Karmann is one of the world's leading full-service suppliers to the automotive industry.Full Features and Specifications list:Crossfire Feature Highlights3.2-L, 18-Valve, SOHC V-6 Engine (215 Horsepower, 229 ft.-lb.
