Vehicle Detail
I am selling my daily driver 1978 240d. It is a 4 speed manual transmission. Cold A/C. New Clutch. Just under 180k miles. Nice stereo. Interior nice except dash which is really cracked, but covered with a dash mat. Good tires with original color matched hubcaps. Its been very reliable. Just a nice old Mercedes. The engine is tight and clean. The seats are good, no tears or holes. The carpet is very nice with mats protecting. Manual windows. Power sunroof, but I have NEVER opened it, so I don't know if it works. The windows are professionally tinted legal for AZ. The original First Aid Kit is still installed and intact. No shimmies or shakes even at 70+ miles per hour on the freeway. Have original owners manual and also a Haynes shop manual. The battery is 3 months old, Autozone 84 month with 3 years free replacement. Tires are good. Brakes are good. Clutch is new including the slave, have old parts. Clock even still works. Door panels are nice no rips or tears. The fuel tank needs cleaning out and is now bypassed with a fuel cell. Lights all work, wipers work, horn works. A/C is cold and have new dryer and necessary parts....works great. Dash is really cracked, I was contemplating a vacuformed dash cap/skin, but for now it has a custom dashmat is fine for me. It just a reliable old Mercedes. I like the manual transmission to get the most out of the power of the little diesel engine. I have taken it to Payson. Yes slow up the hill, but it makes it and no overheating problem. Not a perfect car by any means. Just a nice solid old car. Addition information about MB 240d: . The 240D is a 2.4-liter diesel engine sedan that was produced by Mercedes-Benz. The sedan was introduced in the United States in 1974. It featured comfort and convenience features not available in most other cars at that time. Available until 1985, the 240D has some of the manufacturer's highest reliability ratings due in large part to an easy-maintenance design strategy, sturdy components and thick metal body. A Greek man by the name of Gregorios Sachinidis holds the record for traveling over 2.8 million miles in his 240D between 1976 and 2004. The mechanical specifications of the 240D did not change throughout the vehicle's life in the United States.Engine The Mercedes 240D featured a four-cylinder, 146.4-cubic-inch displacement engine. This diesel, four-stroke engine had a bore of 3.58 inches, a stroke of 3.64 inches and a compression ratio of 21-to-one. In an internal combustion engine, bore refers to the diameter of the engine's cylinders and stroke represents the distance the pistons inside the cylinders travel during operation. Because displacement is a measurement of how much air is displaced inside the cylinders when the pistons operate, larger bores and strokes indicate larger engines with more power. This engine was available with either a manual or an automatic four-speed transmission.Top Speed With a manual transmission, the 240D could reach a top speed of 24 mph in first gear, 39 mph in second gear, 64 mph in third gear and approximately 89 mph in fourth gear. With an automatic transmission, it could achieve up to 21 mph in first gear, 39 mph in second, 64 mph in third gear and a top speed of around 86 mph in fourth gear.Dimensions With a wheelbase length of 110.0 inches, the 240D was 186.0 inches long, 70.3 inches wide and 56.6 inches high. Its front track was 58.6 inches and its rear track was 56.9 inches in length. The sedan had a curb weight of 3,055 pounds and a gross vehicle weight of 4,200 pounds.Fuel Economy With a manual transmission, the 240D had a fuel rating of 29.7 mpg in the city, 39.8 mpg when traveling on the highway around 56 mph and 27.7 mpg when cruising at 75 mph. With an automatic transmission, it was rated at 29.7 mpg in the city, 33.2 mpg at highway speeds around 56 mph and 24.1 mpg when cruising at 75 mph. ******Sold as is no warranty....this is a 34 year old vehicle ************ On Jan-28-12 at 17:28:21 PST, seller added the following information: To answer question about reserve: $2500On Jan-31-12 at 10:58:23 PST, seller added the following information: ***Bought a new car so I am LOWERING THE RESERVE today 1/31/12************
