A 1965 Buick Sport Wagon. Maintained and cared for by the same owner since new, this Buick is a great platform for that special restoration project. Re-live your childhood memories or make new ones with the family in this unique road warrior. Overall this Sport Wagon is in good shape. The body and exterior is really straight, no major dents or damage is present. There are some minor dings and scratches along with faded and worn paint. There is also some minor evidence of rust forming in the corners of the doors and lower exterior portions of the rocker panels. None of which has created holes or soft spots. This Buick was originally purchased in California from a dealer in Oakland where it stayed the majority of its life. It was then taken to Oregon where its owner lived until his passing. Due to this, the car is being sold. The interior of the Buick is all there and relatively decent in appearance. The driver's seat has seen the most use and reflects that usage. It useful life has been extended by the assistance of "duct tape" and the tape has been carefully applied to somewhat match the original material pattern. It also provides the driver some minimal adhesion to the seat to aid in driver placement during hard cornering. The Buick functions well both mechanically and in accessory operation. During driving, there is a very slight pull or drift to the right if the steering wheel is released and there is a small rattle in the dash that could become a nuisance during long trips. There is also a very light vibration at 65 mph thought to be caused by a bad trans mount or maybe an out of balance drive shaft. The cigarette lighter is non functional and the dash clock is not properly operating, being accurate only twice a day. The dash indicator for the right turn signal does not illuminate although the signals do work. In addition to the worn driver's seat, the steering wheel has some cracks in it common for this vintage vehicle. The "wing" windows on both front doors has been outfitted with a "theft" deterrent and are non functional. This Buick has been equipped with some optional devices such as a Micronta radar detector hard wired in, a Midland 77-882 cb radio and bullwhip style external antenna, and a vintage style power inverter mounted in the engine compartment. It has also been fitted with a manual choke just below the dash to aid in cold morning starts. The mechanical condition by appearance and function seems to be really good. This car drives very well in both city and highway drives, it handles, accelerates, stops and steers as it should. The engine was reportedly rebuilt around 3 years ago but there is no documentation or log of miles available to prove this. There are some spare parts that are included with the sale of this Wagon including full set of replacement glass for the cracked roof glass panels, the original air cleaner for the engine, a molding strip, and a few manuals. This is becoming a rare car by the day and this one is a fairly solid example of these collectable wagons. Dont let this one get away.

The History
The name Skylark has been used by Buick during two time periods in the company’s history, 1953-54 and 1961-72. By the early 1960’s smaller cars were featured by most manufacturers and Buick was no exception, offering the small Buick Special line. The Skylark name was revived as a top trim level for the Special.
For 1964 the Skylark moved to a larger, intermediate chassis along with the Chevrolet Chevelle, Oldsmobile F-85, and the Pontiac Tempest. A variety of drive train combinations were offered in a variety of body styles.
Most major American automakers had offered station wagons for years for commercial, and later, as a practical all-purpose family car. Station wagon styling remained fairly static through the 1950s and 60s until Buick brought out the Sport Wagon in 1965.
The Sport Wagon, part of the Skylark range of cars, featured a raised rear section of the roof with curved, tinted glass panels along the sides and across the middle of the roof. This feature allowed a brighter interior, slightly more interior space, and a unique outward view for the rear passengers.
Typical of the time, Buick offered a variety of engine and transmission combinations in their cars. The standard engine for the Sport Wagon was the 310 V-8, named for its torque rating rather than horsepower. This particular wagon has the optional 355 V-8 which was the same 300 cubic inch engine, but with revised aluminum heads and a four barrel Rochester carburetor that boosted horsepower to 250 and torque to 355 foot pounds.
The Sport Wagon is a classic example of the great American wagon.
