I purchased the car to serve as my daily driver to help keep the miles off my 2000 M5, a garage queen of sorts and a car which I have owned for a few years. However, the idea that I’ve bought myself another “toy” isn’t sitting well with the wife, so in an effort to maintain a happy home, the ’01 has to go. In my opinion, this car is mechanically sound. She pulls hard and corners solid. There are NO codes and NO problems to speak of. Everything works as it should. Overall, the car’s condition is well above average. Many parts that are known to fail on these M5’s have already been replaced on this car. The work is done for you. Inside, the Black Nappa Heritage full leather interior has the typical minor bolster wear on the driver’s seat, armrest and steering wheel, outside of that it shows very well for a 10-year old car. The instrument cluster shows the common dead pixel issue, the cluster can be replaced and in some cases BMW of North America will compensate half of the part cost as it is a known defect with these cars. Outside the car, the relatively rare Imola Red paint shows expected rock chips on the front fascia/hood, etc. The body is straight and true with a NO-accidents record. The wheels show the typical, yet light curbing and finish inconsistencies (normal with the OEM Chrome Shadow wheels). Nothing I can see that is beyond that of a daily driver. The records and pictures I’ve provided, I hope, give you an honest idea of how this M5 was cared for, and what you can expect as a buyer. As these E39 M5’s are getting on in their age (and mileage), finding a well sorted example with over 100K miles is becoming almost impossible to achieve. This girl is the exception to the rule.
