Had it not been part of General Motors, and protected by GM's vast size and enormous financial strength, Cadillac might have perished in the Depression; a time in U.S. history when few could afford, or wanted to be seen in, big, expensive automobiles. No matter how superb and beautiful they were. An undoubted great in an era of greats, Cadillac was able to endure "hard times" without squandering its blue-chip image, even as it built ultra-luxury cars selling only in small numbers. Because of this, Cadillac elevated its status into the rarefied realm of Packard, Peerless, and Pierce-Arrow, still the three giants of American motoring.
Offered For Sale by the California Automobile Museum
A 1932 Cadillac 355-B V8 Sedan. This Cadillac is definitely a find. At 80 years old, it is still very solid and relatively complete. Stored for nearly 50 years in a climate controlled storage facility, it has been in a sort of vacuum or time capsule. The body is very straight, with only one visible dent along the passenger's side roof line. The paint appears to be its original paint and it has held up well over the years. There does not appear to be any type of rust on the exterior of the car's body, no evidence of body damage or repairs, and nothing that draws attention to itself. There are a few pieces that are missing or that have been damaged over the years. The three front windows (flat glass) are cracked and will need replacement. Fortunately, they are intact enough to use as templates. The rear tail light lenses are missing. It appears there is one included in the box of parts that will be included with this sale. There is also an emblem? missing on the driver's side tail light. The Cadillac is missing its hard spare tire cover on the passenger's side and the center cap on that spare is non matching. It is actually a V12 cap for Cadillac. One of the headlight lenses is cracked and will need replacement along with the horn trumpet that has been broken off. It is included with the car and may be able to be repaired. Probably the most significant missing items are the grille and radiator cap. There is a mesh style "grille" included but it is unknown if it is correct, fits, or the original. The bumpers are a little bent and will definitely need restoration as the chrome has peeled and faded away over the years. The trim is intact but in need of restoration as well. The steel wire wheels appear to be in good solid shape. No noises or wobbling is present at low speed when pushed. The tires are worn bald and definitely old and in need of replacement. They are the stock size 7.00-17 and could possibly be the originals. The majority of the tires are Wards Riverside brand. The interior is still intact for the most part, providing excellent examples of material and patterns for that perfect restoration. The seats and framing are all very solid and there is no real significant smell of mold or mildew. There are some trim and accessories missing. Readily identified are the trim rings that go around the door glass. There are lenses missing off of the interior lights but there are some replacements included. The actual functionality of the installed equipment is unknown. There is no way for us to power up the electrical system to test any of it. It all appears to be in very good original shape. Mechanically, the Cadillac appears to retain its original engine, serial number 1200115. The engine itself is disassembled and is missing the majority of its rotating components including the crankshaft and pistons. These parts ARE NOT AVAILABLE as no one knows where they are. There are several extra parts included with this sale as can be seen in the photos. Those include an intake assembly, oil pan, and (water pump?). The Cadillac rolls fairly well and the transmission will shift thru the gears as it sits. The brakes are iffy but work at pushing speed. The tires even still hold air. There is no title available for this Cadillac and the only identification numbers attached to this Cadillac are the stamped serial number on the right hand side of the engine block, and the body identification tag attached to the body on the right hand side of the cowl. There is one (1) California license plate attached to the front and included with this car. There will be a Bill of Sale provided to the buyer with the sale of this car. As a note, when we refer to pushing speed, that is the speed generated by 3 or 4 individuals physically pushing this Cadillac on flat ground. We maneuvered the Cadillac through our museum in order to place it in a display. During this time, we were able to steer it and control it using the installed equipment. (i.e. brakes, steering wheel, etc.) There may be issues with all of these components and in reality; this Cadillac is in need of a full and complete nut and bolt restoration. This is a very solid car, and nearly complete and in my opinion makes it ideal for such a project.

The History
From its beginning in 1903 Cadillac established itself as a well engineered, stylish, and high quality automobile that rivaled the best in the world.
By the 1930s Cadillac was acknowledged as the pinnacle of General Motor’s family of cars.
1932 was a year of transition for Cadillac styling as the upright and angular look of the late ‘20s evolved into the more fluid and streamlined forms of the mid-‘30s. The grille lost its earlier chrome guard and gained a fine mesh screen, the fenders were lengthened and reshaped to flow more elegantly into the running boards, and (depending on body style) the roofline was lowered from one to three inches.
While some Cadillacs were given true custom bodies, most were bodied by either Fisher Body or Fleetwood, both of which had been absorbed as divisions of General Motors. This particular car has a Fleetwood body on the mid-sized 140 inch wheelbase, one of three wheelbases featured on 1932 Cadillacs.
Cadillac rocked the luxury car market in 1930 with the arrival of its magnificent V-16 engine, and just nine months later, a V-12. But as impressive as those engines were, their added expense, particularly in the difficult time of the Depression, led most Cadillac owners to order the V-8.
Cadillac’s L-head V-8 was based on a design that first arrived in 1928 and, with evolutionary changes, would remain in production until the arrival of the high compression OHV V-8 of 1949. Known for its excellent performance and reasonable fuel economy, the V-8 could move the large cars to speeds above 90 mph.
