Vehicle Detail
I hate to do it but I am selling my 62 Merc Monterey 2 door hardtop. I have owned this car for 10 years and have enjoyed the heck out of it. It always draws a crowd and the highest of compliments. I would not sell but I need to thin out my collection and I also have a 62 Monterey S55 convert that I am keeping. I am the 3rd owner of this car so I was told when I purchased it. I bought it in August of 2001 (10+ years ago) and the guy I bought it from owned it for 18 years and he bought it from the woman that bought it new here in Portland Oregon 22 years before that. Take a look at the pictures and you will see how nice this mostly original car is. I say mostly because when I bought it the passenger side had a minor scrape on the door and quarter panel that I had repaired and painted from the belt line down. It looks beautiful. All the rest of the paint is original to the car just as it came from the factory. The car has a 352 V8 and an automatic transmission and power steering. The car drives like a dream. I have taken several trips in this car and would not be afraid to drive it anywhere. There are factory Mercury floor mats front and rear. Check out the Merc man on the front mats. Take a look at how great the chrome and stainless is. I purchased NOS tail panel trim for my S55 and the trim on this car is just as nice. Both front fenders do have dings in the stainless that can be fixed and both of the front fender corner chrome is excellent. Take a look at the photo of the horn button to see how great the plastic trim is. The door panels are excellent both front and rear. The rear seat is excellent and the front seat is nice but it does need an upholstery person to restitch the seams. There is a place on the front seat on the drivers side that will need a patch but keep in mind this is the original 50 year old upholstery which is excellent for its age. The sunvisor on the drivers side needs to be restiched on the front as the seam has seperated. None of this should be a problem for a decent upholsterer. The headliner is excellent. Check out the huge trunk with its original mat, jack and handle and jack instructions. The original spare is in the trunk also (the one in the picture is not the original). Take a look at the very cool dealer added yankee mirror on the drivers door. While looking at the doors check out how great the jambs are and the vin tag gives you all the build info. Bottoms of the doors are as nice as the rest of the jambs. Check out the cool dash with the radio delete plate and great chrome. There is an am-fm cassette in the glove box. The product of Ford motor company tag is still on the glove box door. The rocket tail lights and housings are great. The hubcaps are like new. Take a look at the center of the horn ring and see how nice the Merc man looks in the plastic housing. All of the plastic trim is this nice. See how nice the gaps are in the doors, hood and trunk lid. You can see in the pictures that this beautiful car has always been garaged. The engine compartment is extremely clean and has it's original paint, check out the inner fender panels. I have touched up nothing its just as the factory sent it out the door. The pictures say it all, take a close look and use a magnifying glass if you want to. Use them as your own description as to how nice this car really is. If you require additional photos, ask. If you would like to send a rep to see the car that is ok with prior agreement. I will help with shipping but the buyer is responsible for all shipping costs. Fly in to Portland and drive it home if you want. I am 60 years old and the last time I saw an original 62 Merc nicer than this one it was a new car. I have sent a number of Mercury parts to Australia and New Zealand so I will accept bids from there. Other countries please inquire before bidding. No I wont deposit your check and send the balance back to you or your shipper! Note to all bidders; if you have excessive negatives or any non pays dont bid as I will cancel your bid. If you have questions send me an email and I will get back to you as soon as I can, just dont wait until the last day as I wont be able to respond after 6 am pacific time. Rich
