Up for auction is my 1969 Chevelle 396 Super Sport 2 dr sedan based on the 300 Deluxe. Very few people knew that Chevrolet ever built a handful of these lightweight pillared sedans, most became drag race cars, a stripped down base model with the: L35 Big Block 396 / 325 hp turbo jet V8, bench seat, m20 wide ratio 4 speed muncie transmission, power disc brakes, J50, J52, 14x7 sport wheels with white letter tires, special ornamentation, rubber floor mat, and the Super Sport option!! All stuffed in the tight and light 300 Deluxe 2 dr sedan!! How cool is that!! About 4 years ago while on a road trip to North Carolina to buy a car hauler, the fellow said I have a car you might be interested in! Worth a look right? He said it was a 396 SS Sedan!! Ya right never seen one, besides I only had enough money to get me home and started to walk away. He said I am so sure this is a correct factory built car that you can load it up (no money down) and if you determine its not exactly what I am saying it is, don't send me the check. Sounds fair enough to me!! (and he don't even know me). Off comes the rental car and up goes the Chevelle. As soon as I get home to Illinois I called GM of Canada (Vintage Vehicle Services) 905-440-7636 or 905-440-7618 Monday-Friday 8:00 to 5:00 EST and talked to George J Zapora, what a knowledgeable guy!! (Thanx George) Within hours he faxed me and sent by Priority mail everything concerning the mystery car: engine, trans, exterior color, interior color, model, options, production plant, build date, shipping date, and what dealer it was being sent to!! Wow!! GM of Canada sure has its act together!! (see paperwork photos). The history: Always a North Carolina Car until 08. Went to body shop, grew roots, stayed there for 15 years, while there it received new GM sheetmetal: full new GM Quarters (installed at factory locations), new outer GM wheelhouses, new GM door skins, new GM fenders. Original hood, roof, trunk lid, rear panel. Front end got rebuilt, new wiring harnesses, new power brake booster and master cyl. New carpet. Clutch and brake pedals present, dash complete, seats need new upholstery, 12 bolt positraction rear end present with unknown ratio or coding. Needs gas tank (factory unit has been sumped). Missing: engine, trans, bumpers, brackets and misc., all readily available, new, used, aftermarket. Most of the hard work has been done! A very rare car worth putting money in it. A very low starting price and a reserve far less than just the new "NOS" sheet metal would cost today. Clean IL title in my name. Check out my other items!
