Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is my '68 Coronet R/T. It is one of 88 coronet convertible 4 speeds made in 1968. It is silver with black interior. Buckets, with the buddy seat in the middle. The interior in this car is original and the seats have not been recovered. I have no reason to believe the drivetrain is not original. But please ask if you have questions. I am by no means a numbers guru. The restoration shop I worked with to buy it after the previous owner passed away looked at the numbers (as did the Kansas State Patrol) and said it was numbers matching, but please be specific on which number you would like for me to look at and I will do that for you to make sure you get what you are expecting to get. I have had the car for a while and would like to restore it, but I am in the military and have received orders to Wyoming, and I really don’t feel like messing with the car right now. The story behind the car is as follows: An Army sergeant bought the car in early '70 or '71 and drove it around for a bunch of years. He and his wife put the car in storage and planned on restoring it when he retired and the kids were out of the house. Well, the day came when he retired and they moved the car to a restoration shop to get the work done, and then the husband died in a freak boating accident. His wife did not know what to do with the car so she sat on it for about a decade and then decided to sell it. I happen to be in the right place at the right time and wanted a big block 4 speed convert. The car is documented as 1 of 88 4 speeds that year (and who knows how many silver cars with black buddy seat interiors there were). It is in good shape (non running, but the engine turns over) there does not seem to be any rust that I can find. It has sat in a barn in northern Kansas since 1985 or so. I guess you could call this a barn find. The body is in very nice shape with no apparent rust, or rust repair. It is covered in the primer (Which I did not put on) so it is hard to tell what lies beneath, but the bottom is solid (except it will need a small patch panel on the drivers floorboard. Other than that, I looked it over on a lift and it looked to be in good shape. Please make no mistake, this car needs a complete restoration, but the big parts are all there. Please note that the radiator support has been cut out in the pst (I assume to remove the engine and trans together. I have the correct original radiator support piece that has the original number on it and it does match the rest of the numbers on the car. I am sure many people know more than me about the numbers associated with these old cars and will want to pick it apart with numbers and codes or whatever. Please be advised that I will be happy to pass any number or code you wish to see. I ask that you be polite, I am not going to get into an argument with you about wat this car is or was, or if the engine is original or not. To be honest I don't know and really don't care. Even if a drivetrain part is not original the car is still worth the asking price. It is what it is and it is for sale as it sits. If you don't want to mess with it, or feel it is not your caliber of car, then please move on and purchase another car. I have sold a few cars of this vintage and am just amazed at the number of "Mopar Experts" out there. I don't have to sell this car by any means; it will be safe in storage until my return. I am just not wanting to haul it with me to Wyoming. I have some other projects I have in mind to take with me, so if you are thinking low ball, please do us both a favor and move to the next car. Please feel free to ask any questions you wish. I have no build sheet, but I do have the data plate. It reads as follows: abcdefghjkmnpqrtuwy 54 1 ABCDEGHJKLINPONSTVWXY 1 1 21 12345678 ax trm pnt ubs 9 0 8 68 S6X AA1 B W WS27 83 3 44 920 153800 Not real sure what all that means, but it is there and I figure it it's important. This is a nice, complete rare piece of Mopar history so please only buy it if you plan on paying for it. It does that the 18 spline "hemi" 4 speed in it. Thanks again and good luck bidding! The VIN is WS27L8G124948
