Vehicle Detail

1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL > Reserve is always LOWER than the Buy it Now price, but don't miss out! < A low mileage 280SL in Show/Fine #2 condition w/ the desirable automatic transmission which can be manually shifted. A two-owner car originally from Florida; purchased by present owners in `82. Show quality color change to a striking Signal Red, complimented by the NEW, Black Leather interior w/ excellent Black soft, & a basically unused Black hardtop w/ hoist. Complete service records, books, manuals tools, jack & spare. Conscientiously maintained at any cost by present owners @ SL-TECH & Tom Masano Mercedes in Reading, PA. Always garaged & a sunny day driver only. ***A Silver Bow would look great on this SL for a Holiday Gift!*** RESTORATIVE WORK- A stock configuration 280 SL, the only deviation being the addition of retractable seat belts & a color change from the original blue. This is an extremely well-maintained example having gone through a 3+ year (2007-2010) comprehensive frame-up, photo documented restoration in excess of $23,000.00. This work included, but not limited to a thorough mechanical & cosmetic refurbishing as needed to the body, engine, suspension & interior by the renowned German Master Mechanic - Gernold G Nisius of SL-TECH of Arundel ME, sltechw113.com This effort has produced a thoroughly “sorted out” (in Gernold’s own words), no problem Mercedes in excellent mechanical & cosmetic condition w/ all areas being addressed as necessary in the restoration utilizing all original Mercedes replacement parts to insure that the vehicle is as new & safe. 61 Photos of work @ SL-TECH can be seen by clicking on link below:http://www.flickr.com/photos/25478282@N07/sets/72157628005350591/ Gernold specializes in the W113 chassis & his shop was featured in Hemmings SPORTS & EXOTICS Feb, 2011 issue. The same publication featured the Marque in their Oct.`11 issue stating: “The 280SL…were sports cars that did everything well, if not better and nothing poorly. Was there ever any car in the world that could match its brilliant combination of speed, handling, comfort, style and safety? Their balance made them popular in their day among those who could afford them and the recent rediscovery by collectors of their enduring charms has sent values rocketing upwards.” and: “But the Pagodas really do have it all. Little wonder so many enthusiasts consider them the best of the vintage Mercedes to own and drive-and why they’re becoming less affordable every day. The 280 is the most valuable thanks to its higher output…” and: Hemmings says - What to Pay 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Low $20,000 Average $40,000 High $75,000 Our BIN price & Reserve is below the AVERAGE value above & will be reasonably adjusted as necessary to generate a sale. SUMMARY Ø A 2 adult owner, solid, rust-free original car completely sorted out by SL-TECH w/ over 30 years Mercedes Dealership Service that needs nothing but a new driver. Ø Owner has all receipts w/ itemized list of services completed & photo documentation. Ø How many cars on ebay have so much documentation, pictures (especially undercarriage), videos & can tell you who did the “restoration”? Ø Beautiful Red & Black color combo. Ø Many say that the 280SL was the last true "sports" SL & the fuel injected cars are more reliable. Perhaps not as voluptuously styled or powerful as the 190 or 300, it was well-balanced and appeared slightly delicate w/ its more timeless & contemporary linear styling. Affordability & a more appreciative audience have increased its fan base & therefore Pagodas have achieved a collectibility status & their investment value is increasing daily. Keith Martin's Sports Car Market has this to say in their December 2011 issue about a $68K sale: “When properly cared for, these Teutonic, two-seaters will last forever. They were expensive, well-built and beautifully engineered cars when new. Collectors are starting to notice these cars; while $100,000 280SLs were pipe dreams just a few years ago, this is no longer the case, as buyers are realizing how rewarding and classic these SLs are.” Check out my other items! Vehicle is owned w/ clear PA Title by its present owners & they wish to use the proceeds from the sale of this 280SL towards the purchase of a new Mercedes. I am listing the car for the owners on behalf on Tom Masano Mercedes. In order for the vehicle to ostensibly be used as a trade-in on the new Mercedes, the funds from the sale of the 280SL must be paid to the dealership so that the owners may receive their credit allowance on the Trade-In.
