1978 VW Westfalia Camper. Champagne Edition, brown and white. Completely original, extremely clean condition. I'm selling my 1978 VW Westfalia Champagne Edition Camper. I just returned from driving it to Alaska and back - an amazing trip that showcased its innumerable talents and features. It is in absolutely outstanding original condition, with original upholstery and all factory features and parts included and working properly (extremely rare in my experience). It includes the full Westfalia camper kitchen, with two burner propane stove and factory propane tank, electric refrigerator that runs on new Die Hard marine deep recharge auxiliary 12V battery and 7 gallon water tank with sink and faucet, original pop top tent (screen is torn but easily mended) and two bunks (one up, one down). Also included are factory power inverter with two household electric outlets, external water connection and hose for city electric and water hook ups, factory 15 amp external hook up electric cable (extremely rare), factory upholstered front seat / storage box (also extremely rare), front and rear dining tables, all curtains, rear door snap-in insect screen and matching exterior tent. Carpeting is all original and immaculate (I have protective carpeting / floor mats over it, visible in photos, that can be removed in seconds). 1978 was the first year for fuel injection and front disc brakes on the Westfalia, and both are terrific features. Everything - every gauge, instrument and feature - works properly. It even includes VW's famed VDO in-dash quartz clock (extremely rare - standard only on Champagne Edition Westfalia to my knowledge), which is accurate to within seconds per month. Newly installed equipment / parts include Rancho Performance Transaxles (Fullerton, CA) - the premier transaxle provider in the U.S. - 091 OEM spec four speed manual transmission with fully transferrable, unlimited mileage two year warranty, clutch, starter motor, shocks on all four wheels (with four wheel alignment), both front brake calipers and disc pads, front tie rods, brake master cylinder, mass air flow sensor, temperature sensor, complete shifter link bushing assembly kit and sink water pump, all of which were replaced for my Alaska trip. I also installed a Sirius satellite radio, which performs really well with the Pioneer CDM 7874 200 watt (50 watts per channel) RMS stereo receiver / CD player and JBL front / Harman Kardon rear cabinet speakers. Also included are both original VW owner's manuals (Type 2 Van and Westfalia Campmobile Editions), Bentley Factory Service Manual and How to Keep Your VW Alive Service Manual. Extras include VW Westfalia emblem dining / tableware set of plates, bowls, cups and serving dishes with service for four, VW Westfalia emblem silverware and cutlery set for six and assorted tools and spare parts (cables, switches, etc.). Please note, as with all VW Westfalias of this vintage, the mechanical odometer only goes to 99,999 miles. It now reads 18,908 miles, and I assume from the vehicle's condition that it has turned once, thus making its total mileage 118,908. It's impossible to verify this, however. I was told by the gent I bought the van from that it was purchased and spent its first 28 years in Florida, with no winter driving before or afterwards. Paint and all trim appear original and in excellent working condition. If you are looking for an extremely clean example of the famed Type 2 Westfalia Champagne Edition Camper that needs no interior or exterior restoration or replacements (please remember that it is 33 years old), that can be started up and driven anywhere, anytime, this is it. I'm selling it after completing my dream / retirement trip this summer / fall. Someone who truly appreciates these vehicles will be very happy with it.
