LExterior Color: GrayInterior Color: GrayTitle: Clear Description “Task Force” The name assigned by GM to this series of trucks. They featured a number of major styling changes. These included a wrap-around windshield, shrouded headlights in visored fenders, a bold grille, wraparound rear window for much improved visibility, and a look reminiscent of the automobile lines of the same era. One of the most popular designs made by GM, one can see why their popularity still exists today by both purists and hotrodders, and every other car enthusiast in between. Offered For Sale by the California Automobile Museum A 1957 GMC 100 Long Bed Stepside/Flareside Pick Up. For the GMC lovers, this is a grand example of a 100 series truck. Owned by the same family since new, it has been maintained and kept in good shape all 54 years of its service life. There is no rust to speak of anywhere with the exception for the common surface rust found on the undercarriage of California vehicles. The body is all very solid and in good original shape. The only modification to this truck are the tie downs mounted to the rails of the bed. There is only one dent easily seen and that is above the right headlight. The paint currently on the truck is a spray can primer and has fairly decent coverage. There is no overspray so it appears someone took the time to carefully mask off and apply the primer coat. The wood in the bed while old, does not appear to be rotten although it does not appear to be the original wood. There is a rough appearance to the surface of one of the running boards, possibly once rust but the step is solid and the sprayed paint seems to cover it well. The glass is intact and in fairly good condition. The "wing" windows have some yellowing around the outer edges common to glass of this era. Other than that, the remaining windows have no cracks, chips or other blemishes visible. The interior of this truck is neat, clean, and in original form. Everything inside works as it should from the gauges to the heater. There are installed speakers and radio to add to the interior accessories. There is a faint smell of fuel inside while driving and when left sitting over a period of time. While the internally mounted fuel tank does not appear to have any leaks, the seal around the sending unit or the hose to the filler neck may need to be replaced to remedy the smell problem. Mechanically, the engine purrs nicely. It starts well and idles well. It does not overheat, smoke, or make any odd or unusual noises. The transmission shifts through all 4 gears well and reverse works properly as well. Steering, although manual, is tight and there does not appear to be any drift or wander while driving. The brakes are solid and they stop the truck very well considering the manual drum brake technology. This is an overall really good solid truck with no obvious issues or problems. It would make a great driver as it sits or a very nice show truck with a little paint and attention to detail with the chrome, wood, and interior. There are a few extra parts included with this truck such as an intake manifold if one wanted to upgrade to a four barrel carburetor, an extra tail gate, and a lot of extra trim, badging, etc. The original style distributor and coil are included along with some vintage matching California license plates. A handy tool box is installed in the rear and its contents are included as well. Finding these trucks in good unmolested condition is difficult and that makes this one a rare find. The History GMC trucks were the result of “Billy” Durant’s frenzy of buying independent auto and truck manufacturers to create his automotive giant, General Motors. In 1909 Durant bought both the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company and the Reliance Motor Car Company, each of which had been producing commercial trucks. The two were merged within GM in 1911, and by 1912 the GMC Truck name appeared at the New York International Auto Show. Early trucks, including GMC models, were rather crude affairs with hard rubber tires, often open cabs, low geared (often with chain drive) and built strictly for commercial use. The idea of owning a light duty truck for personal daily use was not yet on the horizon. Of course with time the trucks evolved with more power, more comfort and convenience for the driver and passenger. 1955 proved to be a major milestone for GMC with the post-war design known as the “Advanced Design” or 1st Series being replaced in March of 1955 with the more modern 2nd Series. The 2nd Series, also known as the “Task Force” series featured a number of major styling changes. These included a wrap-around windshield which became a common styling feature of GM products through the 1950s, shrouded headlights in visored fenders, a bold grille, running boards now concealed behind the cab doors, and an optional wraparound rear window for much improved visibility. GMC light duty trucks were powered by either a GMC-built inline six or a V-8 sourced from Pontiac. Heavy-duty trucks received a V-8 from Oldsmobile. “Task Force” The name assigned by GM to this series of trucks.

Offered For Sale by the California Automobile Museum

A 1957 GMC 100 Long Bed Stepside/Flareside Pick Up.

The History

GMC trucks were the result of “Billy” Durant’s frenzy of buying independent auto and truck manufacturers to create his automotive giant, General Motors.
