In reality, the charging system ensures that the drive battery will last the life of the car - many hundreds of thousands of miles! The auxiliary battery is a regular 12v car battery and the original lasts about 5 years. I replaced mine with an Optima D51 in Feb 2011 and this should last at least 10 more years. When we bought the car we decided that it would be more practical to get a TomTom or Garmin GPS that could be moved between different vehicles. Average fuel economy is 50 mpg in the summer and 45 mpg in the winter. The car need nothing. It is 100% reliable and we have never had any problems with it at all!
