Vehicle Detail

INCREDIBLE CONDITION - 1995 Alfa Romeo 164 LS You are looking at what is arguably one of the best remaining Alfa 164's in the USA. While many of these cars were driven hard and put away wet, this one has a complete service history, has been zealously maintained, and has recently had all of the common items taken care of. This is a super clean, no excuses Alfa. The Alfa 164 provides a driving experience like no other vehicle. Drive one and your BMW or Audi will suddenly feel like a Camry. The 93-95 series introduced a multitude of improvements in relieability, build quality, and refinement. Not the least of these was modifying the iconic Alfa V6 to go from 12 valves to 24. The torque curve on this engine, not to mention the song of the exhaust note, is like not other. That said, if you are buying a 164, the cost of a "fixer upper" can quickly exceed the value of the vehicle itself. You thus want to buy one with a full service history that has been lovingly cared for, not used as a daily beater. If you want one of the very best 164's remaining, this is your car. Most of her servicing (fully documented) was done by Algar Ferrari and the Alfa gurus at Nick Falcone Enterprises. Lets look at some of the recent service items : This month it passed PA inspection (one of the most rigorous in the country) and a dyno/treadmill emissions test. Only problem was a defective brake light switch that has been replaced with new one. It has brand new Pirelli P4's mounted in the past week. I had these mounted on a set of OEM 164S / Q style wheels which I think look much nicer that the standard LS wheels. The original LS wheels and Dunlop tires are included with the car. New brake pads and rotors all around this summer. Here is a very important item for any potential Alfa purchase. The timing belt and motor mounts were were replaced this summer (about 2,500 miles ago). This summer the A/C was fully serviced with new parallel flow condensor from Alfisimo, new rcvr/drier, new expansion valve. It blows nice and cold. Radiator was also replaced with a new one from diFatta. This is the improved, higher capacity radiator, with metal end caps unlike the original plastic. Now lets go back a little further. The Alfa 164's suspension is amongst the best ever produced. However, like all suspensions there are lots of pieces that wear out with age and time. In 2009, at 51k miles, Algar completely rebuilt the front and rear suspension to the tune of $2838.00 dollars. There are not too many 164's out there which have receieved that kind of maintenance and you do not make that kind of investment in just any car. Just prior to rebuilding the suspension (at 50k miles) first gear became inoperative. Algar rebuilt the transmission and installed a new clutch assembly at a cost of $5,397 dollars. Servcie records go back to when car was new. These are just some of the more recent and significant items. OK, so what kind of shape is she in today? Cosmetically, she is in really nice condition. No accident history, the paint glistens consistent with the care the vehicle has received. Flaws include some road rash at the nose, one small shopping cart ding that can easily be fixed by dentless repair, and a small scratch on left passenger door that has been retouched but not perfectly. On the inside, the leather is soft and supple, realy beautiful interior like only the Italians can do it. Slight wear on the drivers side bolster, otherwise looks near new. All of the windows, switches, etc. work as they should. I have installed a JVC HD Radio with CD but still have the original casette unit and trunk CD changer with car. I ordered harness from Europe so it is all plug and play, no wires were cut. The LCD for climate control does not display properly but is fully functional. (there are 3 places that repair the LCD as this is common on the 164, I simply never got around to addressing this item). Mechanically she runs great. Starts right up, no smoke or anything like that, no funny noises, no oil burning or leaking. Drives great, shifts great, stops great. Tracks like a laser, corners like she is on rails. At this time it needs nothing from a mechanical perspective that I am aware of. Galvanized bodies make the 164 rather impervious to rust. However, they can get ugly underneath the chasis. This Alfa is exceptionally clean underneath. She has never been subjected to salt, snow, other nastiness. So, why am I selling her. This is my 2nd 164. I had a '91 S back in the day that I really loved. Thus, when I saw this one, and spoke to the Ferrari dealer service department, I had to have her. I then, as I tend to do with all my vehicles, treated her as if I were going to keep her forever. Fast forward to today. I have since aquired a few more cars including an Jaguar XJR, Peugeot Mi16, etc. With 9 cars and 2 drivers, some of them need to go. For now I am keeping the older vehicles and the newer ones, the middle children like the Alfa will be going to new homes. I am not a dealer, just a fanatic who buys vehicles he loves and puts far more into them than I should. I have sold quite a few on ebay and the feedback is consistent that buyers generally find they exceed expectations. It is too much hassle to misrepresent cars on eBay so I strive to be fully open and honest. I am not in a rush to sell this vehicle. Buyer will be getting a great car at a great price but I have no need to field low-ball offers. This is essentially a two owner vehicle with myself being second owner. The original owner sold it to a guy who flips cars solely to make a profit. He had it for a month and sold it to me. I am posting a bunch of pictures to go along with the auction. These, and additional photos may also be found at http://www.carstrucksvans.com/alfa164.html The usual disclaimer stuff also applies. This is a 16 year old, Italian car. It is sold as-is and where-is with no warranty provided or implied. While I strive to be completely accurate in description, a part that is working today could fail in the morning. It is NOT a new car. It is a very well kept USED car. There may be a bug splatterd on the headlight, a small blemish or minor item I overlooked in my description. Please ask questions, I am happy to answer them. You are welcome to have the car inspected PRIOR to purchase. Your are bidding to purchase the vehicle, not for the right to come see it after the auction closes.
