Up for auction is my 1978 mercedes benz 450sl. I bought approx. 1 3/4 years ago from a seller in Novato, CA. It was owned by an officer in the Coast Guard - still has Coast Guard pass stickers on the bumper. I have driven it daily since I purchased it. All was fine until last week, when gray (not black) smoke started coming from the exhaust. Note that it still cranks & runs, but smokes. Thus I am listing it as a restoration or parts car. The Texas tags & inspection sticker is current. It has a clear (blue) Texas Title.The +'s = The interior is really nice & clean (as you can see in the photos)floor mats, carpet, doors, seats, etc., the top is new, the tires are less than a year old (lots of tread), the rims are chrome (1 year old) - which I paid $900 for (thus i'll start the auction @ the cost for the rims by themselves), and it has a Kenwood am/fm cd player.The -'s = Of course the smoking engine,dash is cracked (has carpet overlay), there is light rust on both front fenders, but if you want them - auction will include 2 original front rust free fenders (that I purchased for replacement), the cowl also has some rust, but you'll also get a replacement (new) that I purchased. Odometer not working. Note that I also have various other parts that I have purchased (seals, under dash panels, etc), and you will get all that I have! This classic car would make a great restoration project or parts car! Note - there is no Warranty & buyer will take care of all transportation! On Oct-28-11 at 04:25:41 PDT, seller added the following information: Follow up note - As stated above it smokes very bad, and will drive but would not drive it very far at all. I'm no mechanic but i'm sure that if you keep it's current engine it will need to be rebuilt , thus why I listed it as a restoration project or parts car only! It does not come with a hard top - it was damaged last year when being removed.The only fluid leak is on a back brake line (brake light is on), but the brakes work perfectly -new pads placed all round less than a year ago.Also someone asked about a/c - yes it blows but not cold.
