We've owned this car for the last 4 years or so, and it's been a great money saver. We bought it on ebay, so we'll sell it on ebay. The most recent tank ran 568 miles on 12.4 gallons of fuel, or 46 mpg. That's pretty typical for this car. It's still running strong, and I have no doubt it will run another 100,000 miles. We're only selling because we're on a long gravel drive and got snowed in last year, so we bought a 4wd Subaru. We bought the car with around 190,000 miles and we've taken very good care of it, with regular oil changes at 5000 miles, using only Rotella oil (for diesel engines) and OEM Mann oil filters. The positives:45 MILES PER GALLON!Very reliableAll new suspension in 2009 (shocks and struts) front and rearrebuilt fuel injector pump 2009New compressor and freshly charged AC, this past summerRecent tires, at about 60-70%Current NC inspection in September 2011 The negatives:Modest hickory nut damage (see photos). We parked under a hickory tree in the fall, and our poor Jetta paid the price. Looks like hail damage (see photos)Radio is stuck in 'safe mode'. The dealer can correct this problem - it's a security issue, and they just have to reset the radio.Just noticed - someone stole my VW emblems off the hubcaps (on one side only!) this past weekend while I was parked at the airport!Glow plug circuit was not firing reliably, so our local VW mechanic bypassed the computer and installed a manual glow-plug button - hold it for 8 seconds, release and then crank the engine. No problem, but thought I should mention it.Windshield washer squirter hose is broken.Some wild animal gnawed on the bumper (see photos). This is strange and pretty minor, but it's certainly noticeable. All in all, this is a solid car, not perfect but ready to drive, and it will start saving you money the day you drive it home.
