Vehicle Detail

1956 Oldsmobile Super 88 4 Door Sedan This beautiful Olds is being offered for sale. History: There are 25 years worth of receipts and notes about the car, from its 2nd owner, to current. The car was restored in Vancouver Canada in the late 80’s by the 2nd owner, who loved the car like his child. Includes appraisals from before and after his restoration. The restoration included among other things: Complete stripping of vehicle, and repaint in original Tahitian Bronze. All chrome was replated. Various mechanical tasks completed. Interior was in original condition, and was not redone at that time. The restoration has held up rather nicely over the last 25 years. Of course there are blemishes and scratches in the paint, as you would expect with a car being enjoyed and driven. Most chrome is still beautiful and shiny, with the rear bumpers showing a little aging. Exterior: All glass is crack free. Front windshield is not original, all else is. Front also has some scuffs, apparently from an ice scraper. These are not deep, and can be polished out. I have a polishing kit from Eastwood, that I will include. My work schedule simply is not going to accommodate doing it as I had planned, with too much traveling in the next 2 months. Paint overall is very nice. There is one spot on the roof line, where a small amount of bubbling has occurred, but considering its been 25 years since it was painted, its hardly anything to be concerned about. It was painted base/clear as far as I can tell, and according to the paper work from when it was done. There are a couple small spots, where either some repair may have been done, some time after the car was painted, and the spots were not painted in the same quality or manner as original… don’t know why, or who did that, on driver's side rear door, front hood lip, and 2 spots just below rear window. All stainless is very nice. I can not find any rust on the car (other than the previously mentioned bubbles) Trunk is 100% rust free. Interior: Headliner, and door panels are original and in fantastic condition. Seats were recovered about 2 years ago by previous owner, using the correct factory pattern, however not using original material. The material used does look very nice. Carpet was replaced with reproduction kit some years ago, and appears as new. Dash is beautiful, as are instruments, and panel. Steering wheel is in good shape with normal wear, no large cracks of any kind. 2 owners ago, installed a cd stereo in hidden in the glove box. Windlace was replaced sometime in the past, looks as new. Seatbelts were installed, and look nicely done. Engine/mechanical: Equipped with power steering, power brakes, and of course automatic Jet Away-Hydramatic transmission. Original 324 Rocket engine runs excellent, coupled with the original Jet Away-Hydramatic, which shifts just as it should. Recent work includes all new front suspesion/springs/ and steering box. $3000 in recent receipts.Engine has a very slight rocker tick when first started, always starts right up, and idles perfectly. Brakes are in great shape, with work done over the last few years as needed. An electronic fuel sender unit was installed in the trunk by previous owner to make car more reliable than the factory engine type pump, works perfectly. Engine has been converted to electronic ignition as well. Exhaust has a nice rumble to it, not sure what type it is, but is recent and in perfect shape, may be 3 chamber glass packs, and is dual exhaust. All lights, blinkers work as they should. Gas gauge works intermittently. Has after market temp gauge mounted under dash by driver. Tires are a few years old, with hardly any wear. Classic radials, with a 1in whitewall, complemented by original hubcaps. Heater and blower work great. Overall, a great driving, beautiful looking classic Oldsmobile.Reserve is set low, and will be a bargain for a rock solid 56 Olds like this. Reason for selling, is just too many cars in the stable right now, so I have to start somewhere… last in, first out. Car is sold as is, where is, with no warranty implied or offered.Car is for sale locally, and auction may be ended early if sold.I will assist with shipping any way I can, but will be the buyers responsibility. Inspections are welcome, with advance notice. I have a photo gallery filled with high res pics available to interested parties.
