Vehicle Detail
hughes35 store This Jaguar XJ12 chassis # UD1P50292BW was sold on 5-23-1973 by Butts Buick, 315 State St, Santa Barbara, Ca. It has since had only one other owner and has moved approximately 5 miles away. It has full history from new and has never been restored . It has been repaired ,repainted ,maintained and driven but the underhood and underside of this Jaguar is as it left the factory. The series 1 XJ12 SWB car was always very rare with only 2474 examples made out of a total production of 98,527 series 1 XJ cars. What makes them doubly rare is their survival rate, finding an original unrusted example with all original body panels, original engine and trans is like finding the proverbial needle in a haystack. This is such a car, the 5.3 litre V12 engine produces 253 bhp at 6000 rpm, if you dare this probably equates to 140 mph. But forget the numbers this old car goes like a bat out of hell it sits on the road at high speed like only a Jaguar can . The car has no fewer than 4 Zenith Stromberg 175CD carbs just as it left the factory, and it really does drive well. There is a receipt for a transmission rebuild not 2000 miles ago and it shifts superbly. The tires and brakes are all good and the car has all its original wheels and hubcaps. We just updated the ignition with a Petronix system discarding the original ignition amplifier which amazingly had lasted so long. Both gas tanks work fine and the car has a working original British Leyland radio. The body on this car is very sound as are the mechanicals, now turning to the interior where the California sun is not so kind. This car has faired way above average, the blue hide is still supple and intact, in fact remarkably so, there is no plastic here the seats are all good English leather. The carpets and headliner are all original and in great shape, the wood has dulled with age and at some stage will need refinishing. The "peice de resistance" is the huge history file including the original window sticker and invoice and some charming correspondence discussing the value of a 1963 E type as a trade in. Included in the file is a huge stack of receipt covering the last 30 odd years of maintenance.
