Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is my rare 1970 Mercury COUGAR XR7 Convertible. This is 1 of only 1,977 XR7 convertibles produced in 1970. That is less than 2,000 XR7 convertibles ever made! How many are left and in driveable rus-tfree condition? This cougar convertible is in good driver condition. I would regularly drive her around the city in San Jose with the top down and what looks the car would get. This body style is not your average Mustang or Camaro. I have owned five cougar convertibles over the years and this is by far the most rust free convertible I have ever seen. The rockers, quarter panels, doors, fenders, frame rails, and other sheet metal are all solid. The west coast has treated this cougar well as most convertibles are rusty shells after fourty years....Not this cougar. This cougar was factory optioned with the 351C 4V, Automatic Transmission, Air Conditioning, Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes, Power Top, XR7 package which included a unique leather interior, tachometer dash, walnut wood grain interior, and special XR7 badging. This cougar is an original M- Code, 351C 4V car, but unfortunately the motor was long gone before I got her. In its place is a nice running 302 4V with electronic ignition. I believe the original color of the exterior and interior were maroon, but it currently has black exterior and interior which I think is a better color combination. Sometime in this cougar's life before it came to me, her interior was changed to black consisting of 69 cougar standard seats, black 70 deluxe interior door panels, and a nice black dashpad. I have acquired a nice complete original set of black front XR7 bucket seats and black rear XR7 convertible seats to make it correct for that year. I also have a new black convertible top, new rear glass split window, and black XR7 door panels to go with this car. I acquired this cougar in 2005 in the condition that it is today. Through out the time I have owned the vehicle, I have used it as a weekend cruiser on nice spring days and warm summer nights. The cougar convertible has beautiful body lines when the top is down. This vehicle runs very good and gets good looks as she drives through the city amongst Hondas and Toyotas. The time has come where my family is growing and moving so I am parting with cars in my collection. This cougar has served me well but I will enjoy seeing her go to a new Mercury Cougar lover who will take care of her and drive her as she is now or gives her give her extra love and restores her to her former factory days. I wouldnt hesitate to drive this car anywhere locally, but long distances one may consider the age of the tires. She runs and drives nice as she sits now. I would call her a driver quality car, but she also is a driveable project car for the restorer who wants to bring her up several notches. This cougar convertible is being sold AS-IS by me who holds a clear title for this car. GOOD LUCK with this NO RESERVE auction!
