Vehicle Detail
It's early Saturday evening and you've just spent the last two hours cleaning, polishing and buffing the Dodge convertible. It sets in the sunshine, red paint gleeming, the chrome glistening and the top stored under the boot revealing the soft sheen of the black vinal interior. You slide in behind the wheel beside your best girl and give the ignition key a turn. You have to smile as the 383 comes to life and settles into a low rumble through dual exhausts. You slip the torqueflight's gear selector into drive and roll out onto the street. In just a few moments you turn onto the 2 lane highway and accelerate towards the Dairy Queen and the cruise in taking place there this evening. After 45 minutes of rolling through the country, the red Coronet 500 Convertible the focal point of the highway to all you encounter, your sunglasses cutting the glare and the wind wipping your girls pony tail, you see the "DQ" sign. All heads turn as you slow and turn in to the parking lot and you acknowledge the approving glances as you back into a slot at the show. The memory of all the time, effort and money it took to restore the Dodge has faded into pride of ownership. This Dodge is not quite there yet, but could be with some effort by an experienced restorer. This rare, (1164 produced), 69 Coronet 500 convertible has great potential for a new life. Asside from the missing front bench seat and original am radio the car is complete. There are some rust issues to deal with. Both lower rear quarters, the trunk floor and left rear frame rail at the back will need replaceing. The floor pans are good but soft in the footwell areas. The car does not have the convertible "sag" and the doors open and close nicely. It improves from there. Both doors, rockers, hood, trunk lid and right front fender are solid. The left front fender looks like it was bumped and repaired at the front edge but is repairable. The torsion bar crossmenber is solid and there is no rust in the underhood area, including a solid battery tray. The original 318 is long gone and in it's place is a 383. The engine turns but I have not attempted to start it. Owner said the engine had lots of miles but made no internal noises when last run. Interior door panels and rear panels are in good usable condition, the rear seat plastic side panels will need some repair but are all there. The dash is nice and uncut, (top pad has a crack). The rear seat is in good condition but will likely need a cover. The convertible top frame is in good condition and all parts unique to the convertible are there, including the original boot. The top cover and rear window will need to be replaced. All the glass in the car is good with no chips or cracks. Side windows roll up and down. There are no missing trim pieces. The front bumper is a good core for replating, the rear has rust issues. The core support number, trunk lip number and fender tag number all match the VIN number. The car will require a total restoration but the reward will be a very rare red 69 Coronet 500 convertible. Alabama is a no title state and the car will be sold with a "bill of sale". The car rolls and steers but the brakes are inoperative. I can assist in loading. It must be picked up at 35126.
