Vehicle Detail

In 2002 Jaguar made 300 XKR 100 models for sale in all of North America: 270 convertibles and 30 coupes. (Worldwide distribution was only 500 coupe and convertibles!)This is one of the 30 made for this market and a rare find. The XKR-100 was made to celebrate the 100th birthday of Jaguar founder Sir William Lyons and has several options not found on the standard 2002 XKR models. Huge Brembo brakes with cross-drilled rotors, special aluminum trim, special badges on the car and a slightly tweaked suspension. If you want a bit better cornering agility, you'll be pleased with the added grip of the 20-inch BBS modular wheels with wider and lower tires than the stock XKR offers. (255/35ZR-20 front, 285/30ZR-20 rear, versus 245/45ZR-18 front, 255/45ZR-18 rear for the stock XKR). The Recaro leather seats are covered in Connolly leather which you wouldn’t get if you just ordered them from Recaro. The convertible XKR-100 sold for $12,000 more than the standard XKR and the coupe sold for $17,000 more: I believe the original sticker on this beauty was around $98,000. The car has about 73,250 miles on it and is driven daily so is subject to change. It has a few minor problems and I will list all that I am aware of. The sensor for the automatic wipers does not work. The wipers, intermittent function and windshield washers work just fine. The heater for the outside rear view mirror on the driver’s side does not work. (The passenger’s side does work.) There is a hard rubber or plastic trim piece around the shifter gate that is cracked. The cover over the vanity mirror on the driver’s side snapped off and the passenger’s side has lost its spring. There is some wear showing on the leather interior, but not worn through in any place. It is most noticeable on the driver’s seat bolster about shoulder high (rubbed when getting in and out) and some light cracking on the center armrest console. Other than those two places the leather is in very good condition. I think the leather can be repaired for a few hundred dollars or less. The rims have some scratches from tire mounting. A longer and much better list is the things you don’t need to worry about. The car had about 51,000 miles on it when I bought it in December 2008. Since then I have had the required 60,000 mile servicing done and replaced all 4 tires with Michelins of the correct size and speed rating. When I bought the car, I also got a 4 year, 50,000 mile extended warranty with a $100 deductible per occurrence. This warranty is good until January 9th, 2013 or until the car reaches 101,110 miles and is transferrable (to a private party) for a $50 fee. The warranty is very comprehensive and covers everything from all major engine components, including the supercharger, transmission, drive shaft, universal joints and electronic shift control and more. It covers the AC system: condenser, compressor, clutch, evaporator, temp. control programmer, pressure cycling switch and more. Also covered are the upper and lower control arm shafts, bearing and bushings, ball joints, king pins, wheel bearings and more in the suspension system. The power steering pump is covered as are the pitman arm, idler arm, tie rod ends, steering column shaft, couplings and more. The cooling system components are also covered, including the water pump, radiator, cooling fan, clutch and motor…even the coolant recovery tank. More items covered include the fuel injection pump, fuel injectors, tank, metal fuel lines, pressure regulator, fuel sending unit, fuel gage, electronic fuel injection computer/module and sensors. Most of the brake components are also covered, except those items that normally wear…like the rotors and pads. The electrical system coverage includes the radio, built in navigation system, ignition switch and module, headlight switch, starter motor and solenoid, alternator/generator, power seat motors, power antenna motor, wiring harness, and driver’s information gages, except the bulbs…and more. It even offers some coverage for seals and leaks. It offers roadside coverage including towing, flat tire changes, vehicle fluid delivery, and lockout service. The warranty also includes rental car coverage for extended repairs, an allowance for tires damaged by road hazards, hotel stay under certain circumstances, etc…but enough for now. A copy of the coverage is available in PDF format for those who want to see it and specific coverage is limited to the terms of the official contract. Just as an example, when he was doing the 60,000 maintenance, my mechanic discovered 2 transmission leaks and both sides had leaking valve cover gaskets. My cost with the warranty: $100 total for both the transmission and valve cover gasket repairs. The rear tires were replaced within the last few thousand miles as were the brake rotors and pads. I replaced the standard pads with ceramic pads by Akebono and EBC. (Have receipts.) The front Michelins are showing some wear and will need replaced in the near future, but probably still have a few thousand miles left. The paint and exterior are in very good condition and there are no dents, dings, serious chips, cracks…you get the idea. This car has been a blast to drive and always draws envious gazes. When you corner hard, and it will thrill you in the corners as well as the straights, the seat bolsters hold you firmly in place. I get a lot of smiles per gallon and constantly have people commenting about my car at stop lights, restaurant parking lots and wherever else I go. There are other, faster cars out there but very few have the character of this one and the stunningly gorgeous lines that make this model a classic design in automotive history. The following specs for this car are from the Jaguar site and I edited them slightly by including additional information. Also, the 100 series came standard with grey-stained bird’s-eye maple and this is the only one I am aware of that is not grey stained. I believe it was special ordered that way. Jaguar XKR 100 in detail: The supercharged 4.0-litre Jaguar XKR 100 is available in either coupe or convertible form, finished in "Anthracite" paintwork, plus a black hood for the convertibles. The cars share much of the sophisticated mechanical specification of the XJR 100, including a 20 inch version of the eye-catching R Performance "Montreal" BBS alloy wheel, adding to the powerful sporting presence. This is further emphasized by Brembo brakes, red Jaguar "growler" wheel centres, wire mesh grilles and the bonnet louvres. An exclusive red, black and silver Jaguar XKR 100 bonnet badge delivers the finishing exterior touch. The XKR 100's interior showcases an array of new, R Performance aluminium trim details, which add a distinctly sporting look and contrast with the "Warm Charcoal" leather. The aluminium is used for the pedals, door handles, instrument dial rims, the surround for the automatic shift J-gate and gear knob ferule. The steering wheel and Momo gear knob are leather covered, and each carries the R Performance logo. New, R Performance sports Recaro seats front and rear provide strong lateral support and reinforce the feeling of connectivity with the car, for the driver in particular. All seats are covered in soft, Autolux leather and embossed with the Recaro logo, while those in the front are heated and have position memory. The car's sports style interior is completed with a grey-stained bird’s-eye maple dashboard, discreetly lettered with "Jaguar XKR 100". The XKR 100's supercharged AJ-V8 litre engine will propel the car smoothly from 0 to 60 mph in around 5.3 seconds for the convertible or around 5.2 seconds for the coupe - the fastest ever production Jaguar. The adaptive damping of Jaguar's Computer Active Technology Suspension (CATS) is tuned to give the driver a very direct feel for the road, delivering the optimum combination of sporty road holding and grand tourer ride comfort. Driving performance on XKR 100 coupe models is further enhanced with a special R Performance Handling Pack. This includes CATS" settings recalibrated for even tauter, more dynamic handling. Springs and anti-roll bars are uprated, and the steering system is re-tuned for enhanced precision and feel, particularly when cornering. XKR 100s are equipped with a five-speed automatic transmission, anti-lock brakes, stability control, and traction control. There are front and rear fog lights, the ability to manually turn the traction control off, drivers memory seat, programmable garage door and another programmable remote (for a gate, etc.) The car's long list of additional features includes; DVD navigation system, premium sound audio system with 6 CD autochanger, reverse park control, automatic climate control, front and side airbags [featuring Jaguar's Adaptive Restraint Technology System], trip computer, heated windscreen, electrochromatic rear view mirror, central locking, front cup holders, automatic headlights, electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors, front fog lamps and rain-sensing windscreen wipers.
