Vehicle Detail

In 1966 BMW discovered the market for a smaller, more sporty car and introduced the BMW 1600-2. The success of this car exceeded the BMW’s boldest expectation, so 2 years later, in 1968 BMW started the legendary 02-series, that continued until 1977 and was one the most successful models in automobile history. My car was built in June 1968. This car is remarkable, since it is the prototype of a successful series and ALL ORIGINAL. I bought it as a one-owner car ( I am the second owner) and until I bought it in February last year, it was only operated in Southern California. I stored the car between October and April, so this car has never seen snow. It is virtually rust-free and in 100% original condition. It had never any paint or body work done to it. All parts used in maintenance are “OE” (original equipment). I bought the car from a dealer in California and had it shipped to Ohio. A good friend of mine owns a BMW shop in Perrysburg and did all the necessary maintenance (records available). Obviously, the car was in storage for app. 10 years before I bought it, so it underwent a comprehensive maintenance and received a lot of “TLC”: all rubber parts (gaskets, seals, hoses, tires, etc.) were replaced, also the break-cylinder, (also the speedometer, the front grill, etc. ( too much to list). I also installed a new, but original "Blaupunkt" radio. Just a few weeks ago I replaced the battery and the starter (both under warranty). My friend checked the car thoroughly and noted, that the previous owner had clearly changed the oil frequently, since engine block and cylinders and valves are “clean as a whistle”. The car has 110,000 well maintained miles on it. The car is not only historically valuable, but also a lot of fun. It handles and performs remarkably well (0-60 mph in 12.3 sec., top speed 105 mph). Engine: 1.6 l, four cylinder, 85 hp, fuel consumption app. 24 mpg.
