Vehicle Detail

1970 OLDSMOBILE VISTA CRUISER “442” This is a magnificent “442” model of a 1970 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser This Vista Cruiser is truly outstanding and is close to PERFECT AS A VERY RARE “442” model. 442 features: - perfect green / gold paint scheme - Oldsmobile bucket seats - correct Oldsmobile 442 console - 442 steering wheel - correct wheels with 442 wheel caps - 442 hood - dual exhaust Plus: Power Brakes - front disc/rear drum Power Steering Air Conditioning Tinted Windows Carpeted Load Floor and Tailgate AM-FM , CD, Sirius Satellite, sub-woofer, custom Stereo Two Way Tailgate (standard) Roof Rack Dash Control Lighting Under Dash Courtesy Lights Remote Driver's Door Mirror Deluxe Seat Belts Dual Exhaust Rear Air Deflector 3 windows in the roof Beautiful paint, with even more beautiful interior. The "442" paint quality is very close to perfect. I had the whole interior redone with camel vinyl seats, new matching carpeting and mats, suede headliner, vinyl covered posts and wheel wells. The interior quality is perfect. Outstanding sound system! Quadraphonic sound, with AM/FM, CD, satellite radio, ipod, bass sub-woofer, extra hidden amplifier, custom installed with remote unit. Speakers in the kick-plates and in the rear wheel wells. The head unit is hidden in the dash where the ashtray was. The sound quality is superb. Note: because I installed the head unit in the dash, the air conditioning duct in the center is blocked. The air conditioning unit works well and the side ducts are functional. The engine is a Rocket 350 and I have many service and repair records. It runs brilliantly and is very fast. Rebuilt transmission, new master cylinder, new dual exhaust and mufflers, new tires, and many other extras. I installed extra gauges under the dash: oil pressure, temperature, and fuel. The original gauges are idiot lights and they have been disconnected. I also replaced the fuel tank which is a specialized and difficult item to find as it is unique to that Vista Cruiser model. The fuel sender was rebuilt, and is still somewhat temperamental as it sometimes get stuck temporarily when the tank is full. All systems work very well. 95,874 original miles, though a LOT of work has been done to it mechanically and cosmetically. 41 years old in remarkably outstanding condition. I have owned the vehicle since 2007. The Vista Cruiser is considered the “King of all Station Wagons” according to Hemming’s Collector Cars. This full size, 5-passenger wagon has the distinctive tinted windows in the roof which were found only on the Oldsmobile Vista Cruisers and the Buick Sportwagons in the middle 1960’s and early 1970’s. This wagon is considered the SUV of its day and now is highly sought after as a valuable collector’s car. If you can find a Vista Cruiser today, they are generally in terrible condition in need of complete restoration. This rare 442 Vista Cruiser wagon is absolutely beautiful, and magnificently restored. Drive it anywhere with complete confidence. The Vista Cruiser is a station wagon built by the Oldsmobile Division of General Motors from 1964 to 1977. It was based on the Oldsmobile Cutlass/F-85 model but prior to the 1973 model year it utilized a wheelbase which was 5 inches (130 mm) longer than that of the Cutlass/F-85 sedan. Unlike most station wagons, it was styled with an unusual dome car-like glass found in the roof over the second-row seating. It also included sun visors for the second row of seats, and had smaller glass panels over the rear cargo area windows. This car was introduced to the public on February 4, 1964, as a 1964 model. This body style was not unique to Oldsmobile, being shared with the Buick Sport Wagon, and was not repeated in future Oldsmobile mid-size wagons; however, the skylight concept was repeated with the 1991-92 full-size Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser wagon and echoed by its corporate sibling, the 1991-96 Buick Roadmaster wagon. The forward-facing third row seat; while the norm until the late 50s was also unusual for car-based wagons at the time. Though the 71-76 full size GM clamshell models would also use a forward-facing third row, and employ a similar elevated roof over the cargo hold, though without the skylight. A major restyling of the GM A-body car line for 1968 replaced the split skylight with a one-piece skylight, and stretched the wheelbase from 120" to 121". From 1968 to 1972, a 350 cubic-inch V8 became standard with a larger 400 cubic-inch V8 from the 442 muscle car optional in 1968-69 and a 455 cubic-inch V8 from the 442 available from 1970 to 1972. Transmission offerings through the years included one of two automatics - the two-speed Jetaway (1968) or three-speed Turbo Hydramatic (1968-72), or very rarely, a standard three-speed manual with column shift or optional four-speed manual with floor-mounted Hurst shifter. In 1969, the "Dual-Action" tailgate was first offered, as standard equipment on the three-row models and as optional equipment on the two-row models. In 1970, a redesign reshaped much of the exterior sheet metal, making the edges and curves sharper. Although it closely resembled the 1968-69 models, and is essentially considered to be a second-generation car, many of the body parts were no longer interchangeable with the earlier second-generation cars. The dashboard was also completely redesigned. (The GM Skywagon Club recognizes the 1970-72 models as "Generation 2a") For 1971, Olds brought back the full-sized Custom Cruiser wagon on the 98 chassis utilizing GM's disappearing clamshell tailgate, but the glass-roofed Vista Cruiser continued until 1972.
