Its marrying of elegance, roominess, and privacy represents a pinnacle of the art of automobile body styling, and because of this it has been associated throughout automotive history with royalty in Europe and with the royalty of the business, social, and entertainment worlds of America. The Continental Magazine, May/June 1964 Offered For Sale by the California Automobile Museum A 1990 Cadillac Brougham 64" Stretch Limousine. Converted from the original Cadillac factory commercial chassis by American Custom Coach of Beverly Hills California, this high line luxury conversion was known as the Van Cleef Series IV Edition. Some would say that these Cadillac Limos are amongst the last of the classy era of Limos. With long flowing lines, and loads of chrome, the new style SUV limos just don't have the same character. Painted in Cadillac's Medium Gray Metallic with the Silver Metallic trim, this Limo is suited for nearly every occasion, from driving the CEO around town, to a prom night, to a wedding. The exterior of this Limo has been meticulously cared for as you would expect. The paint is nearly flawless and still has a brilliant shine. There are only very minor scratches and blemishes as can be seen in the photos. The glass and lighting lenses are all in good shape aside from a few small rock chips in the windshield. There is one very small area of what appears to be rust starting to form just below the trim on the right rear corner of the vinyl top. The vinyl top is in very good condition and has been well cared for over the years. It has minimal fading and no ocracking or tears. There are some cuts around the rear window as shown in the photos as well. The limo drives very well and rides smoothly as expected. Mechanically, the Limo is ready to go. Everything seems to be in proper working order with the exception of the Air Conditioning. While it does operate, the system is definitely low on charge and would need to be recharged in order to provide any significant cooling for passengers. The Limo just passed a California required Smog inspection and it carries a Clean California Title with the standard Taxi branding. The interior of this Limo is very very nice considering its age. There are very few defects and nearly every installed option operates properly. This Limo has both the privacy glass and solid divider. The privacy glass does not currently operate and is in the down position but the solid divider does. The leather seats and carpet show very little wear and or staining. The driver's area show the majority of the wear. The driver's compartment controls for the rear sunroof does not work. The sunroof will only operate from the rear controls. The Limo is equipped with an operational moon roof, a Sony T.V. with Magnavox VCR, and a Panasonic CD player. There is also a radar detector mounted to the dash. The driver's side rear door has a small piece of chrome trim missing from it and the interior side panel above the driver's side rear seat has material coming loose. The Interior is equipped with the standard indirect lighting all over. There are drawers under the seats that are designed to hold mixers and extra glassware. There is a built in liquor cabinet designed to hold 4 decanters, and there are three built in ice chests as well. Two are for ice and the other designed to hold champagne or wine bottles. The back dash houses a small trash receptacle accessible to empty from the trunk. There is also the standard intercom as well as an in car cellular system. (Operational ability unknown) I am sure this Limo contains many more options and amenities that I forgot to mention so if you have questions, please feel free to ask. Production Information Custom built by American Custom Coachworks of Hollywood, California. The company ended operations in 2003. The History Large, expensive luxury cars have always helped convey an image of wealth, power, and prestige. Cars with long hoods, luxurious interiors with elegant woodwork, cabinets, leather or expensive cloth and deep carpets have been popular for years and make a grand statement about the occupant(s). As the elegant, coach built cars of the pre-WW II era passed into history, modification of large production sedans became more popular. By the 1960s it was becoming common for large sedans to be lengthened and given more luxurious interiors and seating for additional passengers. With time these cars were lengthened to ever greater size and virtually every convenience and accessory imaginable could be built into the car. While a number of companies have done this kind of work, American Custom Coachworks of Hollywood, California was one of the best known. This car began as a top-of-the-line Cadillac Brougham, was stretched some 70 inches and fitted with a range of luxurious features. These features include full leather upholstery at all locations, a privacy divider between front and rear compartments, seating for six at two full-width seats facing each other, storage and drinks cabinets, courtesy and mood lighting, sun roof, an extensive sound system, and numerous other features. American Custom Coachworks was in business from 1953-2003 and provided limousines to many Hollywood celebrities and had their cars featured in a number of films. They were unique in offering one of the first 5 year warranties in the business of stretch limousines. In the heirarchy of the automotive world, no motor car enjoys such distinction and prestige as the chauffeur-driven limousine. Its marrying of elegance, roominess, and privacy represents a pinnacle of the art of automobile body styling, and because of this it has been associated throughout automotive history with royalty in Europe and with the royalty of the business, social, and entertainment worlds of America.

The History

Large, expensive luxury cars have always helped convey an image of wealth, power, and prestige.
