Vehicle Detail
Here's a 1968 Beetle sedan. I bought this and fixed it up for a friend who spent quite a lot of money in the process - then she decided that it just wasn't the car for her. So, her loss, your gain. Here's the video on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ezdvgy5rhlk I put mileage at 999,999 because I really don't know the total miles. Speedo says 1800 miles at this point. What's great about this car is that it's solid. Check the other classic VW sedan auctions here on eBay and you'll see very few with pictures of the underside of the car, while it is on a lift. Most of the other cars are either completely restored (and the sale prices are through the roof) or the car "needs work" and what that means, especially here in the Northeast, is that there is severe rust to the floor boards, rockers, fenderwells, etc etc. So you spend thousands repairing the rust damage just to get to square one. Not so with this car - check the photos. I purchased it and went to work, re-installing the driver's floor pan as it was welded in poorly. I welded several panels under the rear seat, sealed the edges with seam sealer, and painted and undercoated. I welded the rocker box vents and made new sliding covers. Other work that was done: New parts: german master cylinder steering coupling speedo cable retractable 3 point belts brake resevoir and feed lines gas tank rubber feed and vent lines (under hood) rebuild brake/clutch/accelerator pedal assembly rear window seal throttle cable clutch cable cut open center tube and welded clutch cable supports plugs plug wires Bosch blue coil cap rotor points condenser early style bumpers with powder coated bumper adapters sun visors rear view mirror right and left side mirrors antenna Sapphire X AM/FM radio installed - works great!! upgraded mono speaker in dash horn bearing ring cleaned - horn works ABS glove box New TMI interior, including off white upholstery and all new seat foam underneath TMI door panels window crank handles heat cables/heater flap mechanicals new radial tires - have about 200 miles on them new rubber floor mat brand new battery headlight brackets and sockets headlights wiper arms and blades (Bosch) gas line from tank to fuel pump replaced new parking brake cables oil pressure sender interior light extruded aluminum, powder coated running boards I have a brand new set of aluminum body trim from West Coast Metric that goes with the car. A newly rebuilt trans was installed about 8 months ago, works perfectly and has about 200 miles on it. Car was aligned when new tires were installed and tracks correctly. The gen and oil lights work as they should. Great when you take folks for a ride and they ask if the radio works - and it does! Brakes are firm and work correctly. Car has good power and acceleration and doesn't burn oil. Heater boxes work and there is heat to the car, controlled by the heat levers near the E brake handle as standard. What it needs is paint. The black exterior paint job is lousy. Previous owner sanded with very rough abrasive disc, then just painted over and you can see the scratches. I had planned on sanding, priming, and painting it, possibly red or blue. Since the interior paint is black, you could really paint the exterior any color and it would "match" since black is neutral. For example, from 1968 on, all the dashboards in classic beetles are black, regardless of exterior color. The bumpers should probably be replaced even though they are just a few months old! They are the inexpensive ones and they are already starting to rust even though I double waxed them before I installed them. You can get a really nice stainless set for not too much money these days. I have the adapters installed for the earlier style bumpers because I think they look better than the squared off 68 and later bumpers. Dash is okay for daily driver but you might want to replace some day because there are cracks at the top, near the windshield. Also I would go through and replace rubber trim where it's worn. Already done on rear window. At some point, you'll probably want to pull the engine and overhaul it. It runs great and is reliable for daily driving but a rebuild would give you more power. It doesn't leak oil so much as it "marks its spot" as most do. There are a couple of small areas of sheet metal around the engine seal that should be replaced when the engine is pulled. Also there is some surface rust on the underside of the fenders that should be removed with a wire wheel. Then I would apply POR15 or similar, and undercoat. Car is registered now as a historic, but you can see from the sticker on the winshield that it passed NJ standard inspection for driving and registration as a daily driver. Check my feedback and bid with confidence. I've done my best to desciribe the car accurately. Car is AS IS WHERE IS without guarantee, so winning bidder should inspect in person when car is picked up. Buyer must pick up or arrange to pick up in Long Valley, NJ 07853 Must pay 10% of auction total at end of auction, then full payment and pick up car within one week of auction end. Pay via Pay Pal , cash, or credit card with driver's license ID on pick up - no exceptions. Car is advertised locally so I reserve the right to cancel the auction at any time. RESERVE IS SUPER LOW!!!!!! Don't ask what the reserve is as we will not reveal it. Happy bidding and GOOD LUCK!!
