Vehicle Detail
1966 Lincoln Continental Up for auction here is a 1966 Lincoln Continental Sedan with suicide doors. The vehicle is located in Studio City, CA. While not perfect, this car would be excellent to restore. As is it makes a decent rat rod, but it does need some work before it would be 100%. See the pictures as well as a more thorough description below. Click on any photo for a larger view. Here's a link to very high-res copies of these photos, as well as a number of other photos of the car. The photos can be downloaded in original size to view fullscreen: http://bit.ly/naFvMA See the HD youtube videos of the vehicle below, including a walkaround, starting and running, and a quick little burnout! More DetailsThe Good: The car has a clean California title and the registration is current. It can be and is legally driven. The motor is strong and runs very well. The car starts right up when the key is turned. The carburettor was rebuilt about two months ago. The car also got new spark plugs, a tune-up, timing adjustment, etc. at the same time. The previous owner claims the transmission was rebuilt about 5000 miles ago. The trans shifts like butter and has no trouble whatsoever going into and out of gear. All the window glass is there and none of it is cracked. Rear windows are tinted. Brand new battery, as of yesterday. The tires are in good shape. In these photos the spare is on the left-rear. It was like that when I purchased the vehicle and I just never got around to changing it. The matching whitewall is in the trunk and holds air fine. Decent tread left on all five tires. The headlights and turn signals work fine. The motorized front seat works. If you know much about these cars, you know that finding a working power seat can be difficult. I have spare parts, which will be included. I have a complete gasket set, several spare windows, and various other odds and ends. It has pink fuzzy dice hanging from the mirror. :-) The Bad: Most of the bulbs in the dash are burned out, they'll need to be replaced at some point. I wired up some LED lighting in the interior to light the dash in the meantime. The LED lights are wired into the map-light as well to light up the cabin at night and look pretty cool. See the gallery link near the top of the listing for pictures of this. The climate control system doesn't really do much. The fan kicks on, but that's about it. It leaks. If there's a fluid that goes in it, it leaks it. This comes with the territory when you're talking about a car that's almost 50 years old. I keep coolant, oil and Type F in the trunk and just top it up every so often. Only two of the power windows are working at the moment, the driver's and the right rear passenger's. I believe this is a short in the switch system. There's an electrical drain somewhere. I'm pretty sure it's because of the power windows as noted above. When I connect the battery I can hear one of the window relays in the trunk click. I think this is what's causing the drain. I have a battery disconnect that I use to unhook the battery when it's parked. The gas gauge only reads up to 1/4 of a tank or less. No idea what the actual mileage is. No radio. The Ugly: The deck lid is pretty well thrashed. It's severly rusted out, as can be seen in the photos. This isn't the end of the world, these deck lids pop up on ebay for about $200-$300 periodically. There's some rust near the rear window, and along the edges of the trunk that will necessitate some body work to repair properly and completely, but it's fairly minor. There's no serious rust or cancer in the body of the car. The visible rust in the pictures, inside the trunk and on the headliner is just surface rust, it sands off. The paint needs help. It has a lot of nicks and scratches, and some neighborhood degenerate scratched a few tags into the paint. The most egriegious one is on the deck lid, which should probably be replaced anyway, but there's one or two others. See the photos. The car needs a rag-joint replacement, and it's not really safe to drive at freeway speeds because of this. The steering wheel has some play in it because of the worn rag-joint and it's squirrelly at high speeds. While it's fine around town on surface streets, I would not plan on driving it home on the freeway. Buyer must pick up vehicle locally or arrange and pay for shipping.
