Vehicle Detail
1987 Suzuki Samurai This is my eighth samurai and this is a good one. Please check my feedback (100% positive) because to my memory, they have all been sold on EBAY. I have had this one since October and it is now ready to go. I have done the following to this samurai: New sparkplugs Adjusted carburetor Adjusted valves and installed new valve cover gasket New o-rings for distributor New timing belt Changed all fluids- including engine oil and filter, both axles, transfer case, and transmission Meineke repaired exhaust system Adjusted toe-in Installed NOS steering column and replaced rag joint Centered steering wheel Balanced wheels and tires- 225/75 Liberator ATs- older tires but good tread and no leaks Installed new Sony CD player New cup holders New led overhead light New transfer case shifter sheet (bushing) New transmission shifter bushing New leather shift knob Add trailer hitch with converta ball (both 1 7/8” and 2”) (not installed but included) Trailer wiring Minor rust repair: (either new metal or epoxy/fiberglass) Installed new aluminum door panels with stainless screws New matching seat covers for the front seats; need to be strapped down better New gasket for front part of hard top Virginia inspection Other features: Comes with deluxe folding rear seat: installed or not (your choice) Has nice abs 2 piece hard top that quick detaches with 4 clips each. (If you want to go topless, you can remove the top over the front two seats and/or the rear cab much faster than you could put down a soft top.) The same goes for re-installing them. Plus it is much quieter and warmer. New hard tops are $1000 to 1300. Look them up. One of the acrylic side windows has a crack but it seems to be stable and doesn’t leak. This truck has a 2 inch body lift. You could put larger tires on this no problem but acceleration and mileage would suffer. Still, if you are looking for a hunting vehicle, it would be no problem. Samurais have the same wheel bolt pattern as Jeep CJs, Ford 4x4 trucks up until 1996 and earlier Dodges. So it is easy to find cheap used wheels if that’s the way you want to go. This engine is very responsive for a 1300 and can hold 60 mph for hours. Top speed is an indicated 75. The steering on a smooth level road is hands off. The brakes are powerful and very smooth with no squealing or grabbing. Shifter is positive with short throws. The 4 wheel drive works great. In addition to making it my daily driver for most of this time period, I also took three 200+ miles trips. During highway segments, I got 26 mpg. In short, I trust this truck. The Bad: The paint looks good from 30 feet away but the clear coat is peeling in several places and there are nicks and small dents. Currently there is no carpet in the front of the vehicle. There are nice rubber floor mats. New carpet would be about $140 which would make it quieter but would also trap dirt or moisture. Personally, I like the look of metal. (But it is noisier) The engine burns no oil but does have a minor oil leak that I can’t locate. I fixed all the ones that I found. There is some rust that has been repaired. Compared to most Samurai’s, it has less rust, but it is not rust free. It might have a manifold donut gasket leak. Meineke says no but sounds that way to me. (Gasket included) It still has some rattles. Hey, it’s a samurai. Some of the dash vent controls for the heater do not work but the linkage under the dash is reachable from the drivers seat no problem. I have a little pair of vice-grips on the linkage. The heater and defrost works great and I have done some cold weather trips in deep snow this winter with no problem. The air conditioning is not working and I have not tried to fix it. I do know it runs great. Has current VA inspection. If buy is now is used, you can have an extra set of wheels and tires with the ones on the car here are the choices: Chrome CJ wheels with rust with 31” AT tires that hold air and tread that will pass inspection but are dry rotted Chrome samurai wheels (chrome is nice) with worn out street tires White samurai wheels (like on truck but cleaner) with street tires that will pass inspection. I live on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. I will not ship this vehicle. However, if buy it now price of $2500 is used, I will deliver it to your door for free if you live in the following radius: Tidewater, VA; Richmond, VA; Washington, DC; Baltimore, MD; Wilmington, Del. I will only accept cash at time of pickup or delivery. I require a US Post Office Money order for $200 within 5 days of purchase. This is a great samurai, one of my favorites. I have tried to give a full and honest description of its condition and it is ready to drive.
