I am an Ivy League graduate. I am in my mid-30s. I am a serious fellow, and I've been on the national and local TV news giving unpaid and unsolicited financial market commentary; also been in major national newspapers and magazines doing the same. Most recently, I was quoted on M S N B C, C N N, and A A R P magazine. There is nothing being hidden about this car, as so many people do. You don't get 100% positive feedback over 11 years of registration by hiding things. If there is something you should know about the car of which I am aware, it's available to you in the auction. I go out of my way by shooting photos not just of every imaginable angle, but also in multiple lighting conditions and I did a video -- by doing this you don't have to rely on a seller's "interpretation" of characteristics of the car, but instead you can draw your own conclusions from what you see. I also go out of my way to make sure people are satisfied. I work hard to make sure I get specific positive feedback comments; I don't take it lightly, and it means a tremendous amount to me. I look forward to getting to know you if you'd like me to (or if you'd like to buy the car without me getting to know you, that's OK too!)!Use the combination of the photos, videos and text for full disclosure, with more emphasis on the photos and video as the description is clearly not intended to be exhaustive. As eBay says, a single picture is worth a thousand words. eBay strongly recommends the best practice of providing as many photos as possible and letting the photos do the talking, rather than trying to describe in words what can be seen in a photo or trying to recreate in words what already is in provided photos. That said, I will still give you my impression of the driving characteristics of the car. I have been registered on eBay nearly 12 years and have 100% positive feedback. Any questions, message me through the eBay messaging system, which eBay strongly recommends as the preferred method of communication. I am a Management Consultant and recently got assigned outside the U.S. and my family has asked me to make garage space for them while I am away...this VW as well as another two cars of mine at auction simultaneously are the last to go up for auction from a collection, sold in fairness to my family who wants the use of the space. I would never sell this Bus if it were not out of deference and respect for them.AUCTION RULES: Full payment is due within within 7 calendar days of auction ending by either cash in-person to be transacted at a bank during banking hours or bank wire only. (Once you receive a fraudulent cashier's check from a buyer, you'll never accept another one either!) Pickup is also due within 14 calendar days, and may not occur until funds have cleared. Storage for the first 14 days is FREE. There is a storage charge of $350/week beyond 14 days, and is limited to 2 extra weeks (for a total of 4 weeks of storage). You must read the entire auction description, follow the rules, and study each picture and video fully. Someone asked me whether I offer a warranty. I do not offer any kind of a warranty on anything that I sell, ever, as a matter of personal philosophy -- this VW Bus is As Is with no warranty. You get the VW Bus as pictured, captured in the video, and described, a clean a clear Florida title, a Bill of Sale and copy of my Driver's License if you wish, the front real German license plate, the rear 1977 California License Plate, 1/4 tank of fuel, records, books, documentation, ads, parts, brochures, etc., as mentioned or seen in pictures, presentation binder, and two key sets. It's important that you use all photographs and the video because I will not be covering in words what is already available in those. If you are viewing this auction and don't see 24 eBay-hosted pictures below then I haven't put them on yet and they will be available shortly.-- no reserve -- no reserve -- no reserve -- no reserve --**NO MINIMUM BID -- THE TOP BIDDER WINS THE AUCTION**On Aug-12-11 at 05:47:35 PDT, seller added the following information: The following slideshow automatically displays the first 100 of the approximately 1,200 available pictures. To view the remainder of them, and to be able to zoom in, etc., right-click near the bottom of slideshow window where it says "View all" and select "Open in new window" or "Open in new tab." That will keep this auction page open while you are viewing the pictures in a separate web browser window or tab: On Aug-12-11 at 22:27:35 PDT, seller added the following information: I set out on a project of gathering all the spares, accessories, and parts that I've accumulated for the bus. I got them into one place and the boxes are photographed immediately below this text and I snapped pictures of some of their contents that I will put in another slideshow later. Some boxes are just jam packed with spare parts so tightly it would have been overly burdensome to remove each part and photograph and describe each one...so you'll get all the boxes and components in them but I just can't photo/describe each one. Some things in the boxes I recall: A sealed and unused set of branded brake pads with German writing on the box, multiple unused and unopened boxed Bosch condensers, an original VW Bus Bilstein spare tire jack, an original lug wrench, multiple front and rear used Hella side reflector lenses, used tail lights (one of these spares has a crack as I recall), extra chrome/anodized (or painted) side view mirror/s, interior original hard plastic VW logo'd spare tire cover, original front "lollipop" VW nose emblem (where nose-mount spare tire is now), brand new VW Bus camper enthusiast home or office wall clock still in box, aftermarket table top portable propane stove and its control, chrome accessory mud deflectors, chrome accessory headlight "eyelids", multiple sealed/unopened VW specific rubber seal spools with part numbers, master cylinder reservoirs (at least 1, probably 2), spare external 110v/220v Camper outlet fixture (this is from a '75 Westy so slightly different), used Hella front turn signal lenses with crazing, two removable faceplates for the JVC AM/FM/Cassette player you see mounted in the Bus (I don't know if that radio works, but since you also get the still-in-its-box high-end Pioneer AM/FM/CD/iPod-player and Kenwood 1700-watt subwoofer power amplifier with remote control I don't think you'll use the JVC unit anyway...maybe you'll relocate that JVC to the rear living space if you choose to as a second stereo), two electric fuel pumps, used glovebox cover, ventilation system ducts, used clutch pressure plate, spare Bosch coil, spare drive belts, spare Westfalia brand baby cot (there is one mounted underneath the middle seat and one in a corrugated paperboard box in the picture below, Westfalia brand side-tent with carry case bag and ALL of its components (not in this photo immediately below -- even though it has a carry bag the whole unit and its components in the bag are still stored in two very large protective boxes). I'm throwing in a few split-window era Bus parts from a '60s Bus I used to own...maybe they'll be useful to you now or someday or otherwise you can sell them on eBay: they are a New Old-Stock never-installed rocker panel with sticker still on it, some egg-yolk style turn signal lenses, a tail light lens, a shifter boot, and New Old-Stock side vent wind intensifiers. Also including a VW Beetle engine vent rain deflector/inhibitor, new old-stock. These non-'77 Bus specific parts are not pictured at all. All the boxes and extras are already now located located neatly inside the Bus so you don't have to worry they will not all fit inside for when you pick it up or have it transported. I have not specifically spelled out a large number of valuable/rare items that are included, but you get the idea...it's a lot of very valuable things: Immediately below this text is a separate slideshow of 17 pictures devoted exclusively to the Westfalia side-mount tent that's included with the auction...I bought the tent separately a while ago (it was very expensive as you can imagine which is why the owner took 17 pictures of it to sell it (and also to jog one's memory of how it's properly assembled). These are pictures below were taken by the previous owner and provided to me on a CD...the CD is now in the records binder, by the way). The previous tent owner also had a '77 Westy and he had sold his Bus without selling this tent along with it and now it is part of this Bus you are bidding on. Keep in mind, this is not just some regular tent nor or a Bus "Florida room" (which wouldn't have a floor)...it actually mounts to the Bus and has a floor to keep wetness & dirt out and keeps mosquitoes and animals out: On Aug-13-11 at 02:19:56 PDT, seller added the following information: Below is a 12-minute video walking you through the documentation, manuals, original brochures and memorabilia that come with the Bus. Indeed it took twelve minutes to show you everything. I don't have separate pictures of the included brochures, original ads and so on; there will just be this video so please watch it. re On Aug-17-11 at 22:43:04 PDT, seller added the following information: Below is a 15-minute demonstration video of the bus, cold-start, road test, etc. I have gotten some messages about various bidders wanting to drive the bus back to where they live cross country, to Canada, to Seattle, to Texas, etc. You will not have any problem doing that, as I wrote but with one caveat update in that regard: my very annoying new neighbor took it upon himself to adjust to adjust the timing by simply turning the distributor with his bare hand when I turned my head away for 3 minutes, and now I get little backfire noises out of the exhaust upon acceleration. I am giving you this video in which you can hear the backfire popping sounds I'm talking about if you listen closely... Around the 12-minute mark through the end you can hear me accelerating from 1st through 4th gears. I tried to adjust the timing back to where I thought it was before, and adjusted the needle valves in the carburetor but I think it's now basically all somewhat out of adjustment. Clearly I don't know what I'm doing. It's still idling fine and smoothly as in the video and can be driven home to where ever you live but it doesn't have as much ooomph as it had before and you need to get it tuned up shortly. So, plan on stopping at a Pep Boys, Fire stone or other tune shop along the way because you don't want to be having it making little misfire sounds when you accelerate over the 5,000 mile trip home...I am not a mechanic and just proved to myself I really don't know how to adjust timing/carburetors. I just canceled the insurance and registration otherwise I'd have taken it to get tuned up for a hundred dollars (and given the neighbor the bill! it needed absolutely no adjustment before he touched it...) at any one of a dozen different mechanic shops nearby who would love to have the business, so that will be up to you to take care of. I will contribute $100 toward a tuneup, whether you take it to a place or do it yourself by taking $100 off your final winning bid. I think that's quite a nice gesture! I also wanted to point out the ignition switch operates on/off, but to engage the starter there is a hidden microswitch installed conveniently on the steering column. After turning the ignition switch to on with the key, you hardly have to move your hand to get to the soft resistance starter microbutton, so it's very nicely located and convenient. Also note the passenger side seatbelt latch receiver is not working, but there is a replacement from a different model included that may bolt right in and work. I have it sitting right on top of the old one for whoever wants to give a shot to putting it on with a box wrench. Using just one hand to drive it's difficult to drive any VW Bus -- one hand holding a video camera and the other hand both shifting and steering and while simultaneously working your feet on 3 pedals and watching out for traffic, especially since the throw action of the steering wheel and shift lever in a bus is very long...it's a lot to keep track of at one time. I accomplished the mission but but wasn't always aware of where the camera was pointing. Also note the engine idles quietly and smoothly -- inside the garage with the sound bouncing off all the walls it sounds much louder in the video than it actually is. Below the video are pictures of inside the boxes of some of the spare parts and accessories. i Immediately above was just some selected photos of certain included accessories, and below are 50 more photos of other parts included in a slideshow format:
