Vehicle Detail
This car was donated to a 501 (c) (3) charity. I am selling it for the charity. Although I am not a mechanic I have looked the car over and noted the following problems. I will describe the car in its WORST light because I want the buyer to be happy. I have sold other cars for this charity because I'm the local ebay expert, and the buyers were never unpleasantly surprised. I tell it like it is. I make no money on the sale, the entire purchase price goes to charity. I start the price low, with no reserve, so that the market decides. I am told by the owner, a mature Long Island resident, that this was a NJ police car retired at around 60K miles. Since he is not using it and he never found enough time to make it an Impala SS the time has come to donate it, get a tax deduction, and let someone else enjoy one of the last great American Muscle cars. These are the items he told me were done to the car. Drilled & Slotted rotors with performance brake pads.K&N air filterMSD wiresBosch spark plugsnew radiatornew water pumpclass 3 trailer hitch He also told me that the 9c1 has many components that are better than the ones offered on the stock Impala SS. I did a google search on Caprice 9c1 and found out about this car but I suppose you know what this car is if you are looking at this auction. The car has front and rear seat belts, and a search light on the drivers side in addition to all of the standard 9c1 options. The rear doors, locks and windows as ordered from the factory were non-operational but the previous owner turned them back to normal. I picked up the car from the owner and drove it about 8 highway miles and 2 local miles. Starts without problem. Drives great. VERY FAST CAR. I had no problem leaving a patch of rubber from a standing start. I haven't done that in 25 years. Brakes are great. Radio & cassette work. Has factory 12 CD changer w/harness but was never installed. Lights and signals work. Interior is very nice for a 16 year old car. A couple of the knobs & switches need replacing, most are in the glove compartment. There is minor rust at the bottom of the rear quarters. I photographed the spots where I saw the rust. There are two small dents, one on the front fender, the other on the rear passenger door. (see photos) I sold this car last week but the buyer had no idea that trailering the car to his home cost over $500 so he backed out. In the process of checking the car over he broke the hood release so now you need a plier to open the hood release. Also as a result of the first sale, potential buyers told me the following: The A/C evaporator most likely needs to be replaced. I'm told that it is a relatively easy under the dash job but it will also require recharging the r134 coolant. I'm also told that the car could benefit from a tune up, that the remote trunk release needs a solenoid, and that a new thermostat is needed because after 20 minutes of idling the temperature goes up. I'm told this is probably the result of the car sitting unregistered for 6-12 months. By the way for the same reason it could use a bath. Based on the above information I would not contemplate driving this car a long distance prior to some repairs. I received many questions such as can I drive it to Tennessee, Texas, Florida, etc. I'd have to say no, unless you do some repairs first. If you send me an email I will attempt to answer any questions within a day. Your questions must be specific and designed for a non-mechanic. The last picture is the SPID from the trunk. It tells the following: G80 - limited slip differential GU4 - 3.08 rear end LT1 - motor JA9 - heavy duty disc brakes Compnine.com has a full decode of the rest of the SPID if you're curious: http://www.compnine.com/vid.php?vin=1g1bl52p8sr188961. They say this is one of four equally-equipped '95s.
