Vehicle Detail
This car was donated to a 501 (c) (3) charity. I am selling it for the charity. Although I am not a mechanic I have looked the car over and noted the following problems. I will describe the car in its WORST light because I want the buyer to be happy. I have sold other cars for this charity and the buyers were never unpleasantly surprised. I tell it like it is. I make no money on the sale, the entire purchase price goes to charity. I start the price low, with no reserve, so that the market decides. About the car. I picked up the car from the owner (had a very long conversation about the car -- more on that later) and drove it about 10 miles. Starts without problem. Drives great. VERY FAST CAR. I had no problem leaving a patch of rubber from a standing start. I haven't done that in 25 years. Brakes are great. A/C blows cold. Radio & cassette work. Has factory 6 CD changer w/harness but was never installed. Lights and signals work. Interior is very nice for a 16 year old car. A couple of the knobs & switches are missing but am told they are easily replaced. (see photos) There is minor rust at the bottom of the rear quarters. I photographed the spots where I saw the rust. There are two small dents, one on the front fender, the other on the rear passenger door. (see photos) I am told by the owner that this was a NJ police car retired at around 60K miles. It was sold to a mature Long Island resident who has owned it since. These are the items he told me were done to the car. Drilled & Slotted rotors with performance brake pads.K&N air filterMSD wiresBosch spark plugsnew radiatornew water pumpnew thermostatclass 3 trailer hitch He also told me that the 9c1 has many components that are better than the ones offered on the stock Impala SS. I did a google search on Caprice 9c1 and found out about this car but I suppose you know what this car is if you are looking at this auction. The car has front and rear seat belts and a search light on the drivers side in addition to all of the standard 9c1 options. For the first time the car has been sitting unregistered for 6 months. Since he is not using it and he never found enough time to make it an Impala SS the time has come to donate it, get a tax deduction, and let someone else enjoy one of the last great American Muscle cars. By the way it could use a bath. If you send me an email I will attempt to answer any questions within a day. Your questions must be specific and designed for a non-mechanic.On Aug-02-11 at 11:54:12 PDT, seller added the following information: Have a good photo of the SPID from the trunk. If anyone wants it just send me your email address. On Aug-05-11 at 03:38:18 PDT, seller added the following information: I've had some potential buyers see the car and the last one, trying to open the hood broke the cable. You now need a plier to grab the cable to open the hood.On Aug-06-11 at 19:45:24 PDT, seller added the following information: Lots of mechanics and mechanically inclined individuals have come to see the car. Everything the previous owner told me, that I've written in the above description, has been confirmed. BUT there are two issues which must be disclosed. I'm told that the A/C evaporator most likely needs to be replaced. I'm told that it is a relatively easy under the dash job. It will also require recharging the r134 coolant. Therefore there are now no representations about A/C -- sorry, especially in August. I'm also told that the car could benefit from a tune up and the remote trunk release needs a solenoid. On the positive side most have been very impressed with the interior. They have also said the the dents are not that hard to fix and the undercarriage and trunk are in good shape.
