Vehicle Detail
buyitnowpaymelots Store Just consigned (see www.houseofmouseracing for more information on other cars I am currently consigning) is this mostly original, Texas car, 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass “S” with a 350 Rocket motor, auto trans, black buckets, center console, original GM owner’s manual with Protect-A-Plate. It is in mostly in FACTORY ORIGINAL condition with only a few items changed. The drivetrain is original and runs and drives beautifully. The car has great street presence. Although the car has been in storage for many years, it was driven from time to time to keep it operational. We believe the drivetrain to be original. This is a rare and nicely optioned, classic car with a low reserve to protect some of its value. The owner does want the car to see. We will work with the highest bidder to sell the car if it does not meet the reserve. Standard and Optional Equipment on this car are... 350 Rocket engine, 350 turbo trans, 10-bolt rear-end, dual exhaust, power steering, power drum brakes, air conditioning, ralley rims, bucket seats, center console and factory tinted glass. The Body is nice, shiny, and straight with a decent driver-quality cherry-red paint job. No major dents or large problems. The car is very clean since it was from Texas and has had limited driving since ’85. The underneath, trunk and floor pans are like a 3-year-old car with little-to-no rust, not even surface rust! The door and body gaps look nice. There was some minor body work performed in ’86 in a few places but nothing major. The paint has been stable over the last 25 years, but there are some areas on the body that now need minor restoration. Although the car has nice street presence, there are many flaws and the car will need to be repainted (currently in cruiser condition). The vinyl top is very weathered and needs to be replaced. The water has gotten under areas where the trim is attached and shows evidence of rust underneath. The window channels look good as does the glass (no cracks or sanding marks). The windshield does leak at the top and will probably need to be replaced. The windshield has no cracks but does have some wiper streak marks. Most of the windshield trim has a few dings on each piece. The car trim has minor-to-moderate pitting on some pieces – as do the bumpers. Doors, trunk and hood operate as they should with matching keys. Weatherstripping and rubber are in good to fair condition. The car could be used as a daily driver or restored to show-quality original without the major expense of rust repair. The tail light lenses look good and are not cracked. The tail light bezels look good. The front driver-side fender marker light lens is missing. The Interior is all black with bucket seats (with headrests) and center console. The shifter works as it should. The windshield and all of the glass is factory-tinted. Has lap and shoulder belts. Most everything works - directionals, wipers, heat, even the A/C (blows cool, but needs a charge to make it cold). The horn, however, does not work. The headliner is in good shape although some of the headliner trim needs to be reinstalled or replaced.. The dome light works as does the door announcer. The console appears to be in good shape although the lid needs to be reattached and the wood grain has a few stains. Although this was restored in ’86 the back seat covers need to be replaced. No rips or tears in the front bucket seats but the passenger-side bucket has some stitching coming out of it at the top corner. No cracks in the dash but there are Velcro strips stuck to the top of the dash pad and it also looks like something was mounted to the front of the dash (there are two small screw holes there). The car does not have a clock (not sure if it came with one). The carpet needs to be replaced as do the sun visors (the stitching is coming out of them). The rear package tray is very sun-faded and weathered and will need to be replaced. The Drivetain is a 350 Olds Rocket with 2-barrel carb, which runs great, idles like a performance motor, doesn’t overheat, smoke or really leak. The 350 turbo trans works and shifts as it should. The transmission pan gasket weeps from sitting for long periods. No problems in the rear-end either. It has a 3-core radiator. The Undercarriage is in very nice condition too. Floor pans and frame are original and in great condition - no rot here. No frame repairs. Other info: The car is in pretty much original condition with the following items replaced… air shocks, aftermarket stereo (not working), new battery and tires (a few years ago). There are a couple of minor scrapes on the front passsnter-side fender and paint peeling where the vinyl top meets the body in the rear. This may have had problems prior to the restoration and a thin coat of filler used which is now lifting away from the body. The factory jack and all accessories are in the trunk. Trunk liner is in nice condition with no rips or damage. The car could be driven to its new home but has not really been on the road for several years and older cars that have been sitting always needs to be checked through before being driven long distances. Car comes with one set of factory keys, clear Ohio title, and some extra parts. – including dog dish hubcaps, some ralley center caps, extra heater control unit, some misc. brackets and other parts from the car. Comes with GM Owner’s manual and Protect-a-Plate. The car had approximately 108,000 miles when the current owner purchased it in ’86 – and the speedometer now shows 42,173 – so the car has 142,173 miles on it. Unfortunately, the car does not have insurance or current plates and test drives on the road are not permitted. You may be able to drive it in our driveway. I have driven it 8 miles and evaluated it. I restore muscle cars and am a knowledgeable source of information.
